Servant of All
I dislike seeing my life become difficult without cause, as it feels unjust. I am quite constrained financially at present. I do not deserve such hardship amid everything I am enduring. Why does my life feel so strained for no reason?

We hear your heart in this and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord together in Jesus' name. We understand how heavy it feels when life becomes strained and finances are tight and it seems there is no clear reason for the hardship. It can feel unjust and exhausting, and we want to walk with you in prayer and truth.

We want to gently speak to something you shared when you said you do not deserve such hardship. Scripture shows us that none of us deserves the good gifts of God on our own merit, for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23, and the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 6:23. What we do deserve because of sin is separation from God, yet in His great mercy He offers us forgiveness, grace, and daily provision through Jesus. When we feel that life is unfair, we are reminded that God's ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts than our thoughts Isaiah 55:8-9. We live in a fallen world where hardship is part of life since the fall, and even when we cannot see the reason, God is still sovereign and He can use these very strains for our good and His glory.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only by His name that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved Romans 10:9-13. It is through Jesus that our prayers are heard and our hearts find true peace even in financial constraint.

The Word does not promise a life without difficulty, but it does promise God's presence and purpose in it. Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance James 1:2-3. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28. Even financial pressure can be a tool God uses to teach us dependence, contentment, and trust. As Paul learned, I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it Philippians 4:11, and we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us Philippians 4:13.

God also cares deeply about your practical needs. He knows you are constrained financially and He invites you to bring your anxieties to Him. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. Therefore do not be anxious, saying, What will we eat? or What will we drink? But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added to you Matthew 6:31-33. My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who feels strained and burdened without understanding why. Lord, You see the financial constraints and the weariness of heart. We ask You to reveal Your presence and Your purpose in this season. Forgive us for when we have felt entitled or have questioned Your justice, and help us to humble ourselves under Your mighty hand. Lord, provide for every need according to Your riches in glory, open doors for provision and for work that honors You, and give wisdom to steward what has been entrusted. Grant peace that surpasses understanding, strengthen faith through this trial, and teach contentment and trust in You alone. Draw this dear one closer to Jesus, that they may know Him as Savior and Lord and find hope not in circumstances but in Christ. We ask that You turn this hardship into testimony and that Your will be done in this life for Your glory. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord daily in prayer and in His Word, to be diligent in the work He has given your hands to do, for if anyone will not work, neither let him eat 2 Thessalonians 3:10, and to be faithful with little, trusting God with much. Bring your budget and your needs honestly before Him, avoid the love of money which is a root of all kinds of evil 1 Timothy 6:10, and look for ways to be faithful and generous even in small things. God is near to those who are of a broken heart Psalm 34:18, and He will not forsake those who trust in Jesus. Keep seeking Him, and trust that He is working even when you cannot see the reason.

We have been thinking about what you shared, how heavy it feels when life becomes strained and you cannot point to a reason. When money is tight at the same time, that strain can feel even more unjust, especially when you are already carrying a lot. It is understandable to ask why.

We do not see this as a sign you have done something to deserve it. Hard seasons often come without a simple cause, and feeling worn down by them does not mean you are failing.

One thing that has helped others in a tight financial season is not carrying the practical part alone. If you have a trusted pastor, church leader, or a local nonprofit financial counselor, inviting one person to look with you at the immediate pressures, like budgeting or where to find community assistance, can make the load a little more manageable while you continue to seek God for wisdom and direction. You do not have to sort it all at once.

We are praying for you and we care about what you are facing.

Father, we bring our friend before You. You see the strain and the financial pressure and how unjust it feels. Give rest where there is weariness, wisdom for each decision, and the comfort of knowing You are near. Guide each next step and provide what is needed day by day. In Jesus name, amen.

Your words lie very near to many a tried heart, for you speak of a life made hard without visible cause, and of a strain upon your means which makes the burden feel unjust, as though you should not be called to bear it.

There is a kind of suffering which is most difficult to bear, namely that which seems to come without desert. Yet in this you are not alone, and you are not without a sympathetic High Priest. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself suffered, not as a criminal who is punished for his own fault, but as the Just for the unjust. There was nothing in Him that brought the suffering upon Him, for He was pure and holy, white as the lily for holiness, and still He was made perfect through suffering. Not that He was made more perfect in character, for He was ever perfect, but He was made perfect as the Captain of our salvation by the way of the cross, that He might be able to succour them that are tempted. In that He Himself has suffered being tempted, He knows the weight of undeserved sorrow and He enters into it fully.

We must make a distinction which may help your soul. To suffer is the common lot of all men, and poverty and pressure and daily care come to many who know not God. Suffering in itself is not an evidence of grace, nor does it of itself secure a reward hereafter. It is suffering with Jesus, in fellowship with Him and in conformity to His image, which brings the promise that if we suffer with Him we shall also reign with Him. When Miriam was smitten with leprosy for speaking against Moses, she was not suffering for God, but under the result of sin. So we must ask not only that we suffer, but that we suffer as Christians, looking unto Jesus.

Therefore consider Him who endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself. There is a halo round about our griefs since Jesus Christ endured them first. He drank the cup without rebellion and without turning back, and the whole power of His being ran into that channel of obedience through suffering. If you look to Him, you will find that He obtained a tender temper through suffering, and He gives the same to His people, that they may be sons of consolation to others. And remember this word of comfort, that as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds by Christ. Expect suffering, for His people must suffer, but expect also that He will proportion consolation to it.

For your present straitness, cast your care upon Him who spares the guilty and still gives opportunity for repentance and for trust. He who sanctified His people with His own blood outside the gate knows what it is to be despised and to have nowhere to lay His head. He sees your narrow means and your daily endurance. Seek first His kingdom, be diligent in your calling, ask counsel of wise and godly friends in temporal things, and keep your heart from the thought that hardship proves you forgotten. The resurrection both of the just and of the unjust stands as a pledge that God will set all things right, and for the believer, that present affliction is not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed.

I will pray that the Lord will give you grace to bear this strain cheerfully, to find in Christ a perfect Saviour who was perfected through suffering for you, and to know His succour in temptation and His consolation in trial, and that He will in His providence supply your need and keep your heart in perfect peace as you trust in Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
