We hear the deep sorrow and frustration in your words, and we want you to know that your life is not wasted in the eyes of God. The verse you shared from 1 Corinthians 3:15 speaks of a believer’s works being tested by fire, not the believer themselves being worthless. Even if some things in your life feel like they’ve been lost or burned away, your soul is precious to the Lord, and He is still at work in you.
First, let us address the foundation of your faith. If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Salvation comes through confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9). If you have already done this, we rejoice with you, but if not, we pray that you would surrender your life to Him today.
For those who are in Christ, your life has purpose and meaning, even when it feels like you’ve lost time or opportunities. The Lord is a God of redemption, and He can restore what has been broken or wasted (Joel 2:25). We encourage you to seek Him earnestly, asking Him to reveal His will for your life. Psalm 37:23 says, "A man’s goings are established by Yahweh. He delights in his way." Even if you don’t see the path clearly now, trust that God is guiding you.
If there are areas of sin or disobedience in your life, whether it be bitterness, unforgiveness, sexual immorality, or anything else, we urge you to repent and turn away from those things. Sin can make us feel distant from God and leave us with a sense of emptiness. But the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), and His grace is sufficient to restore you. Do not let shame or guilt keep you from running back to Him.
We also want to encourage you to seek godly community. Isolation can make us feel like our lives are meaningless, but the body of Christ is designed to support and uplift one another (Hebrews 10:24-25). Find a local church where you can grow in faith, serve others, and be encouraged. God often uses His people to remind us of His love and purpose for our lives.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our brother or sister who feels like their life has been wasted. Lord, we know that You are the God of restoration, and nothing is too broken for You to mend. We ask that You would reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way, reminding them of Your love and purpose for their life. If there is unconfessed sin, we pray that You would bring it to light and lead them to repentance. If there is doubt or despair, we ask that You would replace it with hope and faith in Your promises.
Father, we declare that their life is not over. You have plans for them, plans for good and not for harm, to give them a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Help them to trust in You with all their heart and lean not on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). Surround them with godly influences who will speak life into them and remind them of Your truth. Give them the strength to press forward, even when it feels difficult.
Lord, we also pray for any areas where they may be struggling with sin or temptation. Whether it be sexual immorality, addiction, bitterness, or anything else, we ask that You would break the chains of bondage and set them free. Your Word says that if the Son sets us free, we are free indeed (John 8:36). We claim that freedom for them now.
Finally, Father, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, giving them wisdom, direction, and a renewed sense of purpose. Help them to see themselves the way You see them, as Your beloved child, created for good works that You prepared in advance for them to do (Ephesians 2:10). We thank You for Your faithfulness, and we trust that You will complete the good work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6).
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
