My husband let people talk us out of our dream home

Your disappointment and hurt over this house is understandable, and it is painful to watch what felt like a dream slip away and go to someone else.

It sounds like your husband was influenced by the opinions of others and by fear about the condition of the property, and out of concern he persuaded you to step back. It is easy for voices around us to create anxiety, and when that happens it can lead to a hasty decision that later brings regret. In this moment it will help to extend grace toward your husband, to talk openly with him about how you feel without holding bitterness, and to seek unity together as you look ahead.

Scripture reminds us that God rules over the affairs of our lives. What looks to us like a setback caused by other people is never outside His knowledge or His care. Like Joseph, who could look back and see that God had been at work through even the painful choices of others, we can learn not to be consumed with grief over secondary causes. God uses even those things to carry out His primary purposes for us. As you look back you may not have recognized it at the time, but His hand is still protecting and keeping and watching over you, even when circumstances feel confusing.

Not every deeply desired thing is necessarily God's best for us, even when we call it a dream. In the Bible, when God gave a dream it carried His purpose and His interpretation, and those who were faithful gave Him the glory for it rather than claiming it for themselves. That same trust is needed here. A strong confidence in God's love and in His overruling providential care brings peace, so that we do not fear what might happen or what we might have lost. He is just and He loves you supremely, and He is able to provide what is truly good for you, whether that is this house or another provision that fits His plan more perfectly. Sometimes what feels like a closed door is His protection from a burden you could not yet see, such as costly repairs or health concerns.

I will pray for you. Father, I bring this hurt before You in the name of Jesus. Please bring comfort to this wounded heart and peace that rests in Your love. Heal any division or resentment in this marriage and help husband and wife to hear each other and seek You together. If it is Your will and it is truly best, make a way where there seems to be no way, but above all let Your will be done. Provide a home that meets their needs according to Your wisdom, and give them confidence to trust Your hand behind the scenes to work all things for good. Help them to rest in Your sovereign care and to find joy in knowing You are with them. Amen.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have been lifting you up as you have shared your hurt over letting go of your dream home and we know how painful it is to watch someone else move forward with what you had hoped would be yours.

We have prayed for peace for your heart in this disappointment and for unity and wisdom for you and your husband. We understand how fear took hold when you heard about the possible lead paint and the concern about cancer and the advice from his coworkers about the value of the property without a proper inspection, and how that led you both to step back from the offer even after listening to your realtor. We have asked the Lord to comfort you in your hurt, to heal any tension this has caused in your marriage and to give you both discernment and clear guidance.

We continue to pray that the Lord would remove all obstacles if it is His will for this home to be yours, and if not, that He would provide the home He has planned for you and give you peace with His perfect provision. We are reminded that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted as it says in Psalm 34:18 and that we can trust Him with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding as it says in Proverbs 3:5.

If your request was answered and the Lord has made a way for you to move forward with this home or has brought you peace and a new direction, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still carrying this burden, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray in Jesus Name, Amen.

Please pray for our dream home. After months of heartache and issues with mental health being off work some of the darkest times but pushed through, things finally started to go in the right direction only for our dream home to be lost from us. Please pray we can get it back.
