We hear your hurt and disappointment over losing what felt like your dream home, and we join with you in bringing this pain before the Lord. It is understandable to feel grief when a hope you held dearly seems to slip away, especially when you feel you were talked out of it by others and by your husband. We want to gently encourage you to guard your heart against bitterness toward your husband in this moment.
In marriage God has made you one flesh, and He calls you both to unity, love, and mutual honor. Your husband's actions, even if misguided, seem to have come from a place of concern for your safety regarding the lead paint, not from a desire to hurt you. We are called to forgive and to bear with one another in love. As it is written, Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32. And again, Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them Colossians 3:19. We encourage you both to come together, to confess any hurtful words, to forgive, and to seek wise counsel together rather than allowing outside voices to divide you. Let your conversation be full of grace and honesty so that unity in your marriage is restored and strengthened, for that unity is far more precious than any house.
We also want to lovingly address the way this desire has taken hold of your heart. When we pray Lord please remove all obstacles so I can get my dream home, we must examine whether we are asking God to serve our desires or surrendering our desires to serve His perfect will. The Lord calls us to trust Him with all our hearts and not to lean on our own understanding. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. And we are reminded, But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:33. A house, no matter how beautiful, should never become an idol that robs us of peace or contentment. We are taught to be content in whatever circumstances we are in Philippians 4:11, and to know that God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19. If God intends another home for you, He is able to provide it, and if He has allowed this one to go to another, we trust that We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28.
Regarding the lead paint, it is wise to be cautious, for the safety of your household matters, but decisions should be made with wisdom and knowledge, not fear. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. A proper inspection and godly, factual counsel from trusted professionals would have been the wise path, rather than being swayed by fear that it could cause cancer without verification. We encourage you in the future to seek facts, prayer, and unity before making such large decisions.
We also noticed your prayer did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We say this in love, because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. And scripture declares, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. To pray in Jesus' name is not a formula, but a confession that we come to God because of what Jesus did on the cross for our sins and His resurrection, trusting Him alone as Lord and Savior. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and eternal life.
We now pray together with you.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this dear sister and her husband to You. Lord, You see her hurt, her disappointment, and the sense of loss she feels over this house. We ask You to comfort her heart, to cast all her anxiety on You because You care for her 1 Peter 5:7, and to guard her heart and mind with Your peace which surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7. Forgive any bitterness or resentment that has taken root, and help her to forgive her husband fully as You have forgiven us. Help her husband to love her well, to lead with gentleness and wisdom, and help them both to walk in unity and clear communication, not being tossed by every outside opinion. Lord, if it is Your will and if this home is truly best for them, we ask that You would open the doors no man can shut, but if not, we pray You would remove the desire that is not from You and replace it with contentment and trust, knowing that You have a perfect dwelling and plan for them. Teach them to be content and to know that You will never leave them nor forsake them Hebrews 13:5. Give them wisdom for future decisions, to seek proper knowledge and to acknowledge You in all their ways. Above all, draw them closer to Jesus and let Your will be done in their marriage and in their home. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
