Father in Heaven, we thank You for the marvel of human vision and the beauty You have placed in this world. We ask that You would continue to grant clarity and health to your husband’s eyes. The eye, that delicate and wondrous instrument, often reveals more than mere light and color, it can uncover the state of the soul itself. When the vision shifts, when hues seem altered from their former tone, it is not only a matter for the physician's skill, but a summons to look deeper. Might there be a spiritual dimness creeping where once there was clarity? The inner eye of faith can grow clouded by the cares of this world, by unconfessed sin, by a heart grown cold toward the Husband of our souls. Your husband’s natural sight has changed, and you were about to speak further, there is more on your heart, I perceive, than you have yet uttered. Unburden it before the Lord, who knows every thought before it is formed on the tongue.
Consider how the eye is the light of the body. If the eye be single, the whole frame is flooded with radiance; but if the eye be evil, how profound is that darkness. Has there been a turning, a shifting of the gaze from Christ, the altogether lovely One? The Lord who is a Husband to His people, faithful, providing, communing in tender love, deserves a bride whose eyes are fixed solely upon Him. When we look elsewhere, when the affections stray, the vision of the soul suffers. The colors of grace may seem altered, not because the light of His countenance has changed, but because our perception has grown diseased. Pray that his spiritual sight be restored, that the eye of faith be cleansed from every film of worldliness, that he may again behold the King in His beauty.
