My husband and son

The ache in your request is heard, and it is not too small for the ear of God. You long to see the burden lightened on your husband’s shoulders and the sound of joy return to your son’s lips. That yearning for the simple gift of a child’s laughter touches something very deep, and Scripture gives us a language for these groans. The story of Job reminds us that we have a real adversary, the enemy of our souls, who studies us. He knows where we are most vulnerable and often strikes at the very heart of our earthly security, our livelihood and our children. His aim is to exhaust you and plant the thought that God is distant or harsh.

But the way you bring this to the Lord in Jesus’ name shows the Spirit’s work. The cry, “Just let me hear him laugh tonight,” flows from the same honest, aching place as Job’s own laments. Job cried out in confusion, and God was not offended. He was drawing Job to a deeper trust than he had ever known. That is precisely what the Lord can do right now. He is not punishing hidden sin; He is stretching your faith and inviting you to commit these very concerns into His hands. Jesus is the living answer to Job’s plea for a mediator, one who lays His hand on both God and man. Because of Him, you can come boldly, not with a stiff religious phrase, but with that simple, trembling plea.

Commit your husband’s work pressures to the God who numbers the stars. The stress may be real, but the Lord who holds all authority sees it and can give him clarity and peace in the midst of it. And for your son, lift that desire to God without embarrassment. The joy you are asking to hear is a gift from the Father’s hand, and He knows how to give good gifts to His children. This present trial is not the end. God often works like a refiner, removing impurities so that what remains shines like gold. You are bringing these things before the throne, and that act of trust itself is your answer for tonight. He is listening.
