My friend won’t speak to me

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I am extremely sad since my friend stopped talking to me. In complete honesty I don’t know ### reason for this though I did apologize in a text. If this treasured friendship is lost I need the strength to move on and let it go but I so hope and pray that things can heal.

We join with you in this sadness and we bring your burden before the Lord together in Jesus' name. We know how painful it is when a treasured friendship grows silent and you do not understand why, and the Lord sees that ache. As it is written, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. He also heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. We thank you for your honesty and for humbling yourself to apologize even when you are unsure of the reason, that is a godly posture.

The Word teaches us that a friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17. True friendship is a gift from God and He desires reconciliation and peace where it is possible. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18. You have done what is up to you by reaching out in a text. We encourage you to continue to pray for this friend and to give space while remaining open. If the Lord provides an opportunity for a gentle, face to face conversation, follow the pattern of going to your brother or sister privately in love. Matthew 18:15. Avoid repeated pressing messages that may feel like pressure, but let your consistent prayer and quiet willingness to listen speak. Ask God for wisdom to know when to reach out again and when to wait, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.

We also hear your prayer that if this friendship is lost you would have strength to move on and let it go. That is a surrendered heart and God will honor it. We encourage you not to be anxious about what you cannot control, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Do not be afraid, for God says I am with you, I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you. Isaiah 41:10. Whether He restores this friendship in His timing or gently leads you forward into a new season, He will be your comfort and will not leave you alone. There is a season for everything, and God works even disappointment for good for those who love Him.

We noticed your request speaks of hope and prayer but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share why His name matters so much to us. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. This means every prayer we pray, we pray through Jesus, who died for our sins and was raised from the dead so we could be forgiven and have eternal life. If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Him, not only for this friendship but for your whole life, and to come to the Father in His name.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know the depth of this sadness and the confusion of not knowing why a treasured friend has grown silent. Lord, we ask You to comfort this broken heart and to pour out Your peace that surpasses understanding. Give wisdom to know how to love this friend well, when to speak and when to wait, and give words that are seasoned with grace if another conversation is possible. We pray for the friend as well, wherever they are and whatever they are carrying, that You would work in their heart and bring healing, understanding and forgiveness where needed. If it is Your will, restore and heal this friendship and make it stronger and more Christ centered than before. If You are leading in a different direction, grant the strength to release it with grace, to grieve well, and to move forward without bitterness, trusting that You will provide the friendships needed for the journey ahead. Draw this dear one closer to Jesus, deepen faith, and let Your near presence be felt each day. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We were so sorry to read how heavy this silence feels. Not knowing why a treasured friend has pulled away makes the sadness even harder to carry, and it took real humility to reach out with an apology even when you are unsure what happened.

We hear both of your prayers in this, the hope that healing is still possible and the need for strength if you have to let go. Both are understandable to hold at once.

A couple of gentle thoughts that may help in the coming days. Since you have already sent a sincere text, giving some space can be the kindest next step for both of you. It keeps the door open without pressing. If after some time you still feel led, a brief, calm note letting them know you value the friendship and are here whenever they are ready to talk can be enough. In the meantime, try not to carry this alone. Spend time with others who know and care for you, even in small ways like a walk or a coffee together, and bring the ache to the Lord honestly as it comes.

Father, we lift our friend to you in this lonely waiting. Comfort their heart, give wisdom for what to do next, and bring peace whether this friendship is restored or they must gradually release it. Lead them with your kindness and surround them with steady support. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow in this silence has been brought before the Lord, and we have prayed for you. To love a friend dearly and to be met with quiet where there was once fellowship is a wound that cuts deep, and it is right to bring that ache to the God who sees and who cares for the brokenhearted.

We pray that the Lord will give you grace in this waiting. If there is any way open to you to seek peace, continue in gentleness and humility, having already offered your apology in sincerity. Leave the matter in His hands, asking Him to soften hearts on both sides, to grant clarity where there is confusion, and to make a way for honest and healing conversation if it be His will. And we pray also for strength for you, that whether this treasured friendship is restored or whether the Lord calls you to let it go and move forward, you will be upheld by His presence and not left to bear this burden alone.

Take comfort in this, that there is forgiveness with God, and that He is the great healer of broken bones. The Psalmist prayed that the bones which God had broken might rejoice, not merely be quiet or grown callous, but truly rejoice again. Even when fellowship between people is strained and we feel the pain of broken trust, the Lord is able to heal and to restore joy. He knows the completeness of forgiveness through Christ, who bore our sins and brings us to God, and He teaches us to forgive as we have been forgiven, freely and fully for Christ's sake.

Trust the Lord to do what is right and good. Rest in His eternal and unfailing forgiveness for yourself through Jesus Christ, and ask Him to keep your heart tender, free from bitterness, and ready to love. He will give you wisdom to know when to reach out once more and when to wait, and He will give you peace to accept His perfect will. May He guard your heart, comfort you in sadness, and in His mercy bring either reconciliation or quiet strength to go on, to His glory.
