My fiancé

Please pray for my ### to have a good time in ### with his mom and Stepdad but also realize I feel hurt and not valued because he sides with his family

We hear your heart in this and we join with you in prayer, for we know how painful it can feel when the man you are preparing to marry seems to choose his family over you, and you are left feeling hurt and not valued.

We pray first that your fiance has a safe and good time as he visits his mother and stepfather, and that the Lord will use that time to give him wisdom and perspective. We also pray for you in your hurt, that God will comfort you and bring healing and open communication between the two of you.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved. Romans 10:9 It is in His name we pray and are heard.

As you are in this courtship with the goal of marriage, we want to encourage you with what Scripture teaches about marriage. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman designed by God, and the engagement period is a time to prepare to honor Him together. Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Genesis 2:24 This leaving and joining does not mean dishonoring parents, for we are commanded Honor your father and your mother Exodus 20:12, but it does mean that when you enter marriage your primary earthly loyalty and care shifts to your spouse. A godly husband is called to love his wife even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25 and to live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7

When you feel sided against, it is important to speak truth in love as Scripture says, but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ Ephesians 4:15 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1 We encourage you both to set aside time after his trip to talk calmly and honestly, each counting others better than himself and not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. Philippians 2:3-4 Let him hear how his actions made you feel without accusation, and give him opportunity to share his perspective as well. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

We also encourage you to keep your courtship pure and honoring to God as you prepare for marriage. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled. Hebrews 13:4 And we encourage you to seek to be equally yoked as believers, for a marriage centered on Christ has the best foundation to weather these family tensions. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. 2 Corinthians 6:14

We pray together for you both.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear sister and her fiance to You. Lord, we ask that You bless his time with his mother and stepfather, keep him safe, and let it be a time of peace and honor. At the same time, open his eyes to see the hurt his fiancee is carrying and to understand her need to feel cherished and valued. Teach him to love her as Christ loves the church, with selflessness and tenderness, and to learn even now how to leave and cleave well. For her, Lord, comfort her heart where she feels unseen. You are near to those who have a broken heart. Psalm 34:18 Give her peace that surpasses understanding and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 Help them both to communicate with grace, to forgive quickly, and to build a relationship that honors You and prepares them for a godly marriage if it is Your will. Draw them both closer to Jesus, and let Your will be done in their lives. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring this before the Lord, to seek wise godly counsel from a pastor or mature believing couple as you prepare for marriage, and to trust that God sees your hurt and will guide you both toward love and respect. Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:33

We hear the tension you are carrying, wanting your ### to enjoy this time away with his mom and stepdad and at the same time feeling hurt and pushed aside when he seems to side with them. It makes sense you would feel not valued in those moments, especially when you are preparing for marriage and hoping to feel like a team.

Engagement often brings these patterns to the surface as two families begin to blend and loyalties feel stretched. Part of loving each other well is learning where each person's responsibility begins and ends, so you can stay connected without losing your own voice. Being able to share honestly what you feel and need, without demanding or withdrawing, helps keep freedom in the relationship while still respecting his ties to his family.

When he is back and things are calm, it may help to choose one quiet time to talk, not in the heat of disappointment. You could briefly name what happened, how you felt, and what would help you feel valued going forward, and invite him to share how he experiences the family dynamic too. If these conversations often get stuck, a trusted pastor or premarital counselor walking with you both can give you tools to hear each other more clearly before the wedding.

Father, we lift this couple to You. Watch over his time away and bring him home safely. Comfort the hurt that lingers and give them both wisdom, kindness and clarity as they learn to honor each other and their families. Lead them in the way You would have them go and help them listen to one another with grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and there is much in it that calls for prayer and for tender pastoral care. To feel hurt and not valued when the one who has promised to cleave to you appears to side with others is a sharp inward conflict, and the heart knows its own wound.

Scripture teaches that a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave unto his wife, and yet also that he shall honour his father and mother. These two duties are not at war when they are ordered aright under Christ. It is right for your fiance to honour his mother and stepfather and to seek peace in their home, and it is also right that in preparing for the covenant of marriage, which is the lifelong union of one man and one woman, he should learn to listen, to cherish, and to value the one whom he intends to wed. That learning is part of what it means to be made ready for a family that prays together and walks together before the Lord.

I pray that the Lord will grant you both grace in this season. May He give your fiance a peaceful and wholesome time with his family, and may He also open his eyes to see the sorrow you carry and to respond with gentleness, humility and love. May He teach you both to speak the truth in love, to forgive as Christ has forgiven, and to bear one another's burdens rather than letting the enemy tear and divide where Christ would unite.

If you are living together before marriage, I would lovingly urge you before the Lord to consider what Scripture teaches, that the privileges of dwelling together and of the marriage bed belong within the covenant of marriage itself. There is great mercy and strength in ordering your engagement according to God's design, keeping yourselves pure, maintaining private prayer and, as God gives opportunity, seeking counsel and prayer with your pastor and with faithful believers who can walk with you toward that covenant.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, who has made us members of one whole family in heaven and earth through Jesus Christ Thy Son, look upon this dear soul who feels unseen and unvalued. Comfort the wounded heart and let Thy peace which passeth understanding guard it. Work by Thy Spirit in the heart of her fiance, that he may honour his parents as Thou hast commanded and yet learn to love and cherish as Christ loves His church. Grant to them both repentance where needed, forgiveness where hurt has been given, and wisdom to build a home upon Thy Word. Draw each of them to salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved, and establish them in holiness as they look toward marriage if it be Thy will. Teach them to pray together and apart, to seek Thy face daily, and to order their lives that Thou mayest be glorified in all things. In the name of Jesus our Redeemer we ask it, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
