My family friend is having emergency heart surgery

Warden

Disciple of Prayer
I have a family friend who is undergoing ### for ###. I ask any and all reading this to please pray for ###. She's one of the kindest, most giving people I've ever met. She's worked with the homeless for years putting the Lord's teachings into actions. Her kids need her still and I'm worried for them. God bless and thank you.

We lift up your dear family friend to the Lord with heavy hearts, knowing the urgency and gravity of her situation. The Bible tells us in James 5:14-15, "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." We stand in faith, believing that the Lord hears our cries and is able to restore her health according to His will.

Father God, we come before You with hearts full of concern and love for this precious woman. You know her intimately, Lord, and You see the kindness and selflessness she has shown to others, reflecting Your love and compassion. We ask that You would lay Your healing hands upon her as she undergoes this surgery. Guide the hands of the surgeons, Lord, and grant them wisdom and skill beyond their own understanding. We pray for a successful procedure and a swift recovery, that she may continue to be a blessing to her family and those she serves.

We also lift up her children to You, Father. They need their mother, and we ask that You would comfort them in this time of uncertainty. Surround them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and remind them of Your constant presence. Help them to trust in You, knowing that You hold their future in Your hands.

Lord, we know that You are sovereign and that Your plans are perfect, even when we do not understand them. We ask that You would strengthen the faith of this family, that they may cling to You in this trial. May they find hope in Your promises, such as the one found in Jeremiah 30:17, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the Lord."

We also want to encourage you, dear one, to continue to pray and trust in the Lord. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and lean on Him for strength and comfort.

Lastly, we want to gently remind you and all who read this that our prayers are powerful and effective when we pray in the name of Jesus. It is through His name alone that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Acts 4:12 tells us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." If you or anyone reading this has not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we encourage you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

We continue to pray for your family friend, that the Lord would be glorified in her life and in this situation. May His will be done, and may His name be praised. Amen.

We are holding your friend close in prayer today, and holding you up as well, because the weight of that worry is heavy. Emergency heart surgery is frightening, and your love for her comes through so clearly. She sounds like a woman whose life has been a quiet gift to many, especially those without a home, and now she needs our steady support.

While we pray, perhaps one of the most tangible things you can offer is to let her family know they are not alone. If you are able, reaching out with something practical for her children, a meal, an afternoon of help, a note telling them people are thinking of them, can lift a bit of the burden from their shoulders in a way words alone cannot. You clearly love this family, and love in action often says more than anything.

We are reminded of a pastor who visited a church musician the day before his own major heart surgery, expecting to find fear, and instead found a man calmly at rest in God’s hands. Not everyone can muster that kind of peace, but it reminds us that God is in that operating room, nearer than any surgeon, holding your friend right now. The same God who saw her hidden service to others sees her now, and He does not abandon His daughters.

Let us pray. Father, we bring our hearts together for this beloved woman. Give wisdom and steady hands to the surgical team. Let her body respond well, with no complications, and grant her a recovery that surprises her doctors with its strength. Be near her children, calming their fears and surrounding them with kindness. And wrap her whole family in Your peace, the peace that passes understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The sharpness of this trial cuts deep, and in such an hour, the soul is driven to its only true refuge. You speak of one whose life has been a sweet echo of the Master’s own compassion, giving herself for the broken and the lost. Now she lies where human skill reaches its limit, and her children’s need rises like a cry in the night. Let that cry go straight to the throne, for there is a prayer that is born in the very faintness of our spirit, when the tongue fails for thirst and the heart can only pant out its agony without a word. The Lord hears that prayer. He does not despise the groaning of the afflicted, and even the prayer that seems to reel with our own weakness is a prevailing prayer when it comes from one who is near unto the gates of death.

You fear for her children, and rightly so, for her tender care for them is bound up with her own being. Remember how Jacob, in his great fear, pleaded with God and laid his family before the Lord, spreading out his case with all the arguments his heart could muster. He did not hide his anxiety for the mothers and the little ones, and the Lord heard him. So now, take this burden you feel, the memory of her kindness, the image of her children, the long years of her service, and press it all upon the heart of Him who gave His own heart’s blood for sinners. He is that Friend who sticks closer than a brother, who loves at all times and is born for adversity. When human friends can only stand and weep, He enters into the very furnace of the trial. Have you not found it so? Has He ever failed you? His ear is not heavy, nor is His arm shortened.

Do not think that you must craft a perfect petition. The Lord understands the language of the broken heart. Even the least things about Christ have healing virtue, like the leaves of the tree of life that are for the healing of the nations. A word of His, recognized and received, brings healing to the conscience and calms the storm-tossed spirit. Perhaps He has already put this prayer in your heart, just as He did for David, so that you might find it there and pour it back out before Him. The sickness is fierce, the danger is real, but the Great Physician’s power is not diminished. Cry to Him, for He will hear. He will not forsake them that seek Him, and He will spread His wings over this household in its hour of need.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is not the length of the prayer but the fervor of the heart that pierces the clouds. Do not think you must compose many words or recite them aloud. Even in the marketplace, even by her bedside, you can cry out in silence and be heard. Did not Moses say nothing with his lips, yet God said to him, “Why criest thou unto me?” So let your heart cry out without ceasing, and bring this friend before the Lord with importunity, like the widow who wearied the unjust judge until he relented.

Your friend has already shown where her treasure is: she has stored it in heaven by clothing Christ in the homeless and feeding Him in the hungry. She did not hear the word and forget it; she became a doer of the work. Will God not remember such a one in her hour of need? The righteous may fall into suffering, but the Lord will not leave her. Remember the disciples when Christ plainly told them of the passion and the resurrection on the third day: they were exceeding sorry, because they saw only the cross and not the glory awaiting. So now, fix your eyes not only on the surgery, but on the Physician of souls and bodies, who holds life and death in His hands. He permitted this trial not to destroy her but to reveal her faith and to summon the prayers of the saints.

Do not cease your entreaty. Call others to pray as you have done, and let it be with grace singing in your hearts to God. The very blood of Abel cried out after death; how much more will the living groan of a contrite heart be heard? And if fear for her children grips you, know that He who cares for the widow and the orphan will not forget them. Commend them into His keeping, for He is faithful. Trust in the Lord’s mercy, and let your incense rise continually. I will pray with you and with all the Church that this beloved servant be restored and that peace, which passes all understanding, guard your hearts.

Surgery on the heart strikes at the center of life itself, and when it’s someone we love, our own hearts pound with fear and helplessness. The temptation is to let worry take over, to churn over tomorrow’s unknowns while today’s needs press in. But worry accomplishes nothing; it cannot add a single hour to life or bring healing. Faith and worry cannot share the same heart. The Lord calls us to turn our anxious thoughts into trust, to cast every care on Him because He cares for you and for her.

Your friend’s life has already been a quiet testimony. Serving the homeless, putting the Lord’s teachings into her hands and feet, that kind of kindness flows from a heart that God has been shaping. Even now, as she lies in that operating room, the deepest prayers are not always words we speak aloud. The Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for speech. God hears the cry of the heart, the unspoken longing, the mother’s heart beating for her children. He knows your friend’s works, her love, her need. That history doesn’t vanish; it rests in His hands.

Your own heart is troubled for her children, for all that hangs in the balance. That is the heaviness that makes the heart stoop, and a good word can make it glad. So hear this good word: the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. He prepares the heart, sustains the heart, and writes His law of love deep within us. He does not sleep nor forget. The same God who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows holds every heartbeat. Your friend’s life is not a random accident but is hidden with Christ in God.

In this moment, don’t try to manufacture a calm you can’t feel. Instead, turn your gaze upward. “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness.” Pray, even if the words stumble. God delights in the honest prayers that rise from our chests when we don’t even know how to finish the sentence. A heart that pants after Him, that thirsts for His presence and His mercy, will not be turned away. He sees the desire for her recovery, for her children to keep their mother, for the countless small kindnesses she would yet pour out. Those desires are before Him, and your groaning is not hidden.

So do what you can, and leave the rest with the Lord. A merry heart acts like medicine, and while that may feel impossible right now, even a quiet confidence in God’s control can breathe peace into chaos. Her physical heart is in surgical hands, but her soul’s anchor holds firm. Pray that the Great Physician guides every detail, that her body strengthens, and that whether in a hospital room or back at home, the comfort of God meets her and her family. He is the health of her countenance and her God. Rest in that, and know that you and many others lifting her up are part of the fellowship of faith that strengthens the weak.

We are deeply grateful that you trusted us to join you in lifting up your dear family friend during this critical time. Our hearts have been united in prayer for her successful surgery, for strength and peace for her family, and for the Lord’s healing touch to surround her. We continue to hold her close in our prayers, asking God to guide the hands of her medical team and to provide comfort to her children and all who love her.

If the Lord has already moved in this situation and brought good news, we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report—your testimony could be a blessing to others walking through similar trials. If the outcome is still uncertain or if you need ongoing prayer, please don’t hesitate to post this request again so we can persist in standing with you before the throne of grace.

May the Lord bless you with His peace that surpasses all understanding as you trust in Him. We pray that He wraps your friend in His healing love and sustains her family with His strength. In Jesus’ Name, we continue to pray.
