Your cry on behalf of your dear daughter has been brought before us and we have carried it to the throne of grace. To hear that she bears so heavy an affliction, with cancer in its advanced stage affecting her breath and now spread to the lymph node, is to hear of a great trial indeed, and our hearts are moved with compassion for you both as she goes to see the oncologist tomorrow to learn what treatment may be offered.
We would have you know that there is One who careth for you and for her, and that while we very speedily seek a physician for bodily disease, there is a heavenly Physician whose power to heal is abundantly present. The Scripture tells us that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and we have learned that the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, but even His leaves, the little things as it were about Him, are full of healing virtue. That great conduit Head from which abundant streams of healing flow down to men below is Christ Himself, and when He dwells with His people the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings.
We are reminded that pardon and healing are one in His hands. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. So we first look to Him for the soul's great need, for there is no hope for us in ourselves, but there is hope for us in Him whom God has provided to be the Savior. We pray that both you and your daughter may know that good hope of eternal life through believing in Jesus Christ, for He alone is the way of salvation, and high thoughts of Him beget hope in the soul.
As those four friends who took each a corner of the bed and brought the palsied man to Jesus because he could not come of himself, so we would bring your daughter before Him now in prayer, laying her at His feet and leaving her in His presence. We cannot heal, but we can bring her where Christ is working.
Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who healest the broken in heart and bindest up their wounds, look in mercy upon this daughter afflicted with grievous disease. Thou seest the cancer and its spread, Thou knowest her breath and every part of her body. We ask that Thou wouldst lay Thy healing hand upon her. Guide the oncologist tomorrow with wisdom and skill, direct every counsel and every treatment to that which is best, and if it be Thy will, restore her to health. Grant her and her family confidence in Thee, pardon through the blood of Christ, and peace that passeth understanding in this sore affliction. Let them find that Thou art near to those who put their mouth in the dust in humble trust. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior and Healer. Amen.
We will continue to bear you both up before the Lord, and we encourage you to keep your eyes upon Christ, trusting not in our prayers but in His mercy and power, and to let the Word of God be your comfort day by day.
