We hear your heart in this and we are standing with you in prayer, for you and for your dad. It is painful to feel stumped by someone you love and respect, especially your father, and to walk away feeling shaken in your faith. We want to encourage you that God is not threatened by questions, and He invites you to seek Him for wisdom and truth.
We want to address some of what your dad raised, so you can be better equipped. He said Christianity has been rewritten and that there were religions before it, and he questioned when it was written. These are common objections but they do not hold up.
The claim that the Bible has been rewritten is simply not supported by the evidence. The Bible was written over about 1,500 years by about 40 different authors, with the Old Testament completed before the time of Christ and the New Testament written in the first century by eyewitnesses or close associates of eyewitnesses. God has remarkably preserved His Word. We have more than 5,800 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, plus thousands more in other languages, and the Dead Sea Scrolls showed that the Old Testament we have today is essentially the same as it was over 2,000 years ago. This is why we can trust what is written, for every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness 2 Timothy 3:16, and the grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever Isaiah 40:8. The word of God is not a rewritten myth, every word of God is flawless Proverbs 30:5.
The fact that there were religions before Christianity also does not make Christianity untrue. The Bible itself teaches that from the beginning God was revealing Himself and His plan to rescue mankind. From the promise in Genesis 3:15 onward, God was pointing to the coming Savior. Older religions existing does not disprove the truth, it actually shows that mankind has always known there is a Creator and has been searching for Him, as Paul says that which is known about God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them Romans 1:19. Christianity is not just another religion among many, it is the fulfillment of God's promise fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
We also hear you saying you want knowledge so you can change his mind and that you do not want to become an atheist. We understand that fear, and we want to gently remind you that while we are called to be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear 1 Peter 3:15, it is not you who changes a heart, only God can. The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him 1 Corinthians 2:14 and the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving 2 Corinthians 4:4. Your dad needs more than an argument, he needs the Holy Spirit to open his eyes. That is why prayer and a godly life spoken with grace seasoned with salt Colossians 4:6 are so powerful alongside answers.
We also want to lovingly point you to the center of it all, which is Jesus Christ Himself. You mentioned Christianity, but we want to be sure you know that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and salvation. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. To be saved we must confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead Romans 10:9. If you have put your faith in Christ, hold fast to Him even when you do not have every answer. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God Romans 10:17, so stay rooted in the Word daily.
We encourage you to study to show yourself approved by God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, correctly handling the Word of Truth 2 Timothy 2:15. Ask God for wisdom, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. For the Lord gives wisdom, out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding Proverbs 2:6. A good place to start is reading the Gospel of John to know Jesus deeply, and then resources that deal with manuscript evidence and fulfilled prophecy. And remember to contend earnestly for the faith which was once delivered to the saints Jude 1:3 with gentleness and respect, not as a debate to win but as a witness of love speaking truth in love Ephesians 4:15.

Your honest confession has been heard and taken to the throne of grace, and I thank God that you have not hidden your struggle.
You were stumped by your father and he walked away, and now you fear lest your faith should fail. This is that state of which our Lord said, O you of little faith, why did you doubt. Little faith is not no faith. Between the very lowest degree of faith and a state of unbelief there is a great gulf. You have faith, though it be little and trembling, and Christ gently censures it that He may strengthen it. He does not cast you away for doubting, but He asks you why you doubt when you have a strong Christ and an unwavering promise. Where deception is inconceivable, doubt should be impossible.
You ask for knowledge that you may change your father's mind. That desire is good, but remember that faith is more than winning a debate. Faith is not only to know that the man is there, and to believe that the man is strong, but to drop down into the man's arms. That is the pith and essence of it. Your first need is not an argument to overcome your father, but a shield to protect your own soul. Above all, take the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Whether the dart be a scoff from man, or a doubt from within, or a temptation from Satan, faith can overcome it. This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.
You must also learn that to change a heart belongs to God. You cannot by mere reasoning convert your father, but great faith prays and prevails and overcomes Him who is goodness itself. As the woman of Canaan overcame Christ by her mighty faith and prayer, so you may overcome heaven by pleading for your father. Bring him before the Lord daily and ask the Lord to show him Christ.

Your request shows a sincere heart that wants to know and follow the truth, and God sees that desire. It is painful when a conversation with your father leaves you feeling stumped and shaken, and it is good that you brought this to prayer instead of holding it alone.
Do not be discouraged because you did not have every answer in the moment. Faith is not measured by winning a debate on the spot. As I have taught, faith is judging nothing more reliable than the words of God, and trusting Christ even when we do not yet have all the reasons laid out. Unbelief often comes not only from lack of knowledge but from faintheartedness and lack of patience, and God calls us to bear these struggles with patience while He teaches us. The fact that you do not want to walk away from Him is itself evidence that He is at work in you.
I am praying for you and for your father. I pray that God will strengthen your faith so that it rests on Christ Himself, for faith passes to the Father through the Son, and to believe on Christ is to believe on God who sent Him. I pray that He will give you peace from fear, growth in knowledge, and love and wisdom as you speak with your father again. I pray also for your father, that God will open his heart to seek the truth with sincerity and to encounter Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation.
