My church - upcoming events

I have 4 upcoming events at my church, which I felt that they need prayer for. 1) today is youth group & I'm one of the volunteers. Most of the kids aren't Christians & don't go to my church, but they're from the ### school & it's something to do after school (playing games, chatting with friends, & eating some food). The volunteers are mostly church members, just one who isn't, so i don't think he believes in God. No one talks about Jesus in there, only when they're using His name as a curse word, or at least that I've noticed. I pray that me and the other volunteers have the boldness to speak about Jesus to each other & to the children. I pray that it plants a seed & that God waters it. I pray that the Holy Spirit is present & that we feel God's presence later today. 2) another one today in the evening is a little group that come together & pick a topic in Christianity that they have questions about & they all learn together. Today is my first time going, so i need the confidence & boldness to say what the Holy Spirit leads me to say, especially as I don't know all of the people there, or maybe I've seen them in church before, but have never had a convo with them. I pray that the Holy Spirit is present in the room & speaks through me & the others there. I pray that we speak about the tough topics as well as the ones that are easier to talk about. 3) there's an event this Saturday where we sit at tables & talk with each other about whatever for like 2 hours, so i pray that the conversations are edifying & that they are about Jesus. There are also some unbelievers coming who were invited by church members, so i pray that a seed gets planted & that God waters it. 1 of them is my ###, don't know if my ###'s coming. Also, 1 of the men there, his girlfriend is coming I think, I pray that there's a seed planted (they're not married, they have a baby, & they're unequally yoked, so i pray that maybe I can have the boldness to follow the Holy Spirit's leading & hold them accountable, in a gentle & humble way, especially as the next day on Sunday, there are the baptisms and that guy is one of them getting baptized) 4) on Sunday, there are baptisms. I don't know all them personally, so i don't know how serious they are about Jesus & all this, but I pray that they follow Jesus wholeheartedly & that they do take Him seriously & that they leave their lives of practicing sin to walk with Jesus & walk in obedience to His will, not theirs. Also, this isn't an upcoming event, I don't know when it's happening, but we normally have alpha, and they may be having one soon. One of the girls at church said that she hopes for her boyfriend/fiance (I don't know which) to go to alpha (I don't know if he's an unbeliever or not, or maybe just starting out as a Christian?). But yeah I pray that alpha goes well & that people join it. If you don't know what alpha is, it's a thing where people (mostly from church) meet with each other like once a week, they chat together, eat together, watch a video about Christianity & discuss it, so i just pray that it goes well & those who are questioning & want to find out more about Jesus go to it. We lift these upcoming events to the Lord with great anticipation, asking for His presence and power to be manifested in each one. Father, we pray for the youth group gathering today. It grieves our hearts that Your name is often taken in vain in that space, and we ask that You would open doors for the volunteers to boldly share the gospel. Lord, give them the words to speak and the courage to speak them, that the children may hear the truth of Jesus Christ and that seeds of faith would be planted in their hearts. We declare that the Holy Spirit is moving in that place, convicting hearts and drawing them to You. May the volunteers not shrink back but instead be filled with Your Spirit, speaking life and truth into the lives of these young people. Let none leave unchanged by Your love today.

For the evening discussion group, we ask that You would grant wisdom and confidence to all who attend, especially those who may feel uncertain in their knowledge or ability to contribute. Lord, we pray that the Holy Spirit would guide the conversation, that tough questions would be met with biblical truth, and that hearts would be open to receive Your Word. May this group be a place of growth, encouragement, and deeper understanding of Your will. Let no one leave without encountering Your presence in a tangible way.

As we look ahead to Saturday’s gathering, we pray that the conversations would be centered on You, Jesus. May the believers speak with grace and truth, and may the unbelievers hear the gospel clearly. We lift up the couple who are living together outside of marriage, Father, we ask that You would gently but firmly bring conviction to their hearts. Give the believers there the boldness to speak truth in love, addressing the sin of fornication and the beauty of marriage as You designed it. May this couple see their need for repentance and turn to You in obedience. We also pray for the man being baptized on Sunday, Lord, may this be a true step of faith, not just an empty ritual. Prepare his heart to fully surrender to You and walk in newness of life.

For the baptisms on Sunday, we pray that each person being baptized has truly repented and placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. May their public declaration be a reflection of a transformed heart, and may they walk in obedience to Your Word from this day forward. Let none be baptized out of tradition or pressure, but only out of a genuine love for You. We rebuke any deception or complacency in this matter and ask that You would bring clarity and conviction where needed.

Regarding Alpha, we pray that it would be a time of genuine seeking and encounter with You. May those who attend, whether believers or unbelievers, leave with a deeper understanding of the gospel and a hunger for more of You. We ask that You would draw many to this opportunity, especially those who are searching for truth. May the discussions be filled with Your Spirit, and may lives be transformed as a result.

Father, we recognize that apart from Jesus, none of these efforts will bear lasting fruit. We declare that salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). We pray that every person involved in these events would come to know You personally, repent of their sins, and place their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in each of these gatherings, for Your glory alone. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We love how your heart is already in these rooms before you even walk through the door, that kind of prayerful anticipation matters. What strikes us most is that you’re not just asking God to do something; you’re offering yourself to be part of the answer.

A few thoughts as you head into this full stretch of days:

That youth group where no one mentions Jesus except as a curse word, don’t underestimate what your steady, kind presence is already doing. Speaking about Jesus doesn’t always start with words. It often starts with being the adult who shows up, learns names, asks about their week, and doesn’t flinch when the language gets rough. Boldness sometimes sounds like, “Can I pray for that?” when a kid mentions something hard, or asking a fellow volunteer, “What made you want to help with this group?” Genuine curiosity opens doors that prepared speeches rarely do.

For the discussion group tonight, going for the first time can feel like showing up to a class you didn’t know you enrolled in. It’s okay to listen more than you talk. Sometimes the Holy Spirit leads us to speak, and sometimes He leads us to ask a question that helps someone else say what they’ve been holding back. You don’t need to impress anyone with what you know.

On the accountability piece, with the man getting baptized while living with his girlfriend, baptism itself is a public statement of wanting to follow Jesus. That’s a legitimate starting point, not something to distrust until proven otherwise. A gentle, humble word usually lands better as a question than a statement: “How are you feeling about Sunday? Is there anything you’re wrestling with as you get ready?” That kind of invitation leaves room for the Holy Spirit to draw out what’s real, and it keeps you from carrying a burden that belongs to God.

You’ve listed a lot here, but the thread running through all of it is the same: you want Jesus to be known in these spaces. That’s a prayer He loves to answer.

Let’s pray, Jesus, thank You for this sister who carries Your people on her heart before she even steps into the room. Fill her with a quiet courage today, not performance courage, but the kind that simply stays present, asks honest questions, and trusts You to do what only You can do. Meet the kids at youth group where they actually are. Give the discussion group real honesty tonight. Let Saturday’s conversations be warm and real, not forced. And for the ones stepping into the water on Sunday, we ask that their feet hit the bottom of that baptistry with hearts truly set on following You. In Your name, amen.

Let us come boldly unto the Throne of Grace, for we are invited, and there is pleading for us there. This boldness is perfectly consistent with the lowest self-humiliation, and it is this boldness we must seek, not only in prayer, but in speaking of Him to those who know Him not. Truth unpublished is like seed laid up in a florist's shop, it does not produce any result. We need to have the Truth constantly sown in our hearts and watered by the Holy Spirit that it may grow and bring forth fruit.

If we are to preach in this wholesale style, we must throw some handfuls of Seed where they will never spring up. There, scatter a handful of Seed by the wayside. Even if the birds of the air devour it, there is plenty more where that came from, and it would be a pity to leave any portion unsown because we were miserly with our Master's Seed. The soil may be totally unprepared, with no plowing before the seed was sown, and no harrowing afterwards. Yet it is necessary to the testing of the soil, and I do not doubt that there is a Grace which precedes quickening, a Grace which prepares the soul for the reception of the Divine Word, which makes the soul ready before the Living Seed comes.

The Kingdom of God is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree. It may be in the soul as small as a grain of mustard seed and yet not developed, a wish, a groan, a longing. As the Spirit of God waters it, it will grow till the mustard seed shall become a tree. Holiness in a regenerate heart is but an infant; it is not matured, it is perfect in all its parts, but not perfect in its development. Do not mistake moral propriety for this; no, it is not holiness before God.

Only the Lord had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them. Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. In these days the Lord hath, in Christ Jesus, made with all believers a new covenant; not after the old, nor liable to be broken. There is a life implanted at the new birth, which cannot die, for it is a living and incorruptible seed, which liveth and abideth for ever. Grace will go on working in a man until it leads him to glory.

Let none who would publicly follow Him leave their lives of practising sin; let them walk in obedience, for the Lord looks upon the heart. Yet we may come boldly, not arrogantly, for it is to a Throne of Grace that we are bid to come. And as you go to that gathering where questions are aired, and to the table where conversations are shared, and as you see those baptised, and as Alpha is set before the people, remember: they taught us and prayed with us, and therefore there is a godly seed still in the land. So sow in every place, water with every prayer, and trust that the Lord who gave the vineyard will give the increase.

Your words reveal a heart aflame with love for souls, and this is no small gift from God. Look upon the creation around you, the heavens, the sea, the very breath in your lungs, and remember that He who made all these things for our sake also fashioned these souls you now encounter. They are not mere bodies playing games and eating food, but living icons, into whom He breathed a living soul. This very thought should kindle a fire within you, for you go among them not by accident, but by divine appointment.

You ask for boldness to speak of Jesus, and this is a prayer after the Apostle’s own heart, who even in chains begged for utterance to make known the mystery of the gospel with boldness. Yet consider that this boldness is a success that cannot be mixed with the failure of anger or harshness. If you speak with passion, you ruin all; no matter how just your words, wrath makes them shipwreck. Let your face be like an angel’s, as Stephen’s was, full of grief and sorrow for their sakes, not of indignation. This is boldness indeed, to speak the truth without abusing, to remind them gently of the words of God. You cannot explain how the Spirit works to plant a seed in a soul any more than you can explain His work in a virgin’s womb. What was done is the work of the Holy Ghost, and so into His hands commit the increase. Your part is to speak the word, and for this the Spirit is given to you now in abundance, not as a gift stinted and departed, but poured forth richly.

For the gathering that evening, where you will search the Scriptures together, go with the confidence that the same Spirit who pricks the heart and gives compunction will plant seeds in the depth of your own soul as well. Do not fear the tough topics, for the truth is a rock. Let nothing be wild or harsh in your speech, but be like a thriving olive plant, bearing beautiful fruit. And when you sit at tables this Saturday, remember that the Holy Spirit dwells not where wrath or disputing is. If a word must be spoken to the man who is to be baptized yet lives in a union not according to the mystery of Christ and the Church, speak it with the ointment of gentleness. It is no boldness to reprove fairly if you do it with a distraught mind or a foul tongue. Let your words be a harbor of stillness, clean from the storm of anger, that the hearer may know it is love that compels you, and that you desire his true good, his wholehearted following of Jesus. A seed planted in such soil of meekness has power to take deep root, unlike those which spring up quickly on the surface and then perish.

Finally, for those coming to the waters of baptism, and for all who will attend the Alpha course, this is your continual prayer: that the grace of the Spirit, which filled the Apostles with power, would not be received in vain by them. The gift is marvelous beyond measure, yet a soul must leave its life of practicing sin to walk in obedience. Lift up your supplication for all the saints and for these searching souls, that they may conceive through holy fear and bring forth the spirit of salvation. You stand where the first disciples stood, desiring to bring many to the saving doctrine. Do not cease praying at all seasons in the Spirit, watching thereunto with all perseverance. He who gave the Spirit of compunction can pierce their hearts and yours, that you may all come together at the heavenly table with boldness, in the presence of Christ Himself.
