Please pray for ###, she has stage four cancer for five years she’s been fighting it. The hospice nurse says she is going to go anytime now. It’s not fair because I lost my son in ###, two children is all I had. I lost my husband in ### so now I’m going to be at alone.

We are joining you in this deep valley of sorrow and we have lifted you and your precious daughter before the throne of grace in Jesus' name. We weep with you over this long five year battle with stage four cancer and the painful words from hospice that she may go at any time, and we ache with you over the losses you have already endured with your son and your husband. To face the possible loss of your second child and to feel the weight of being alone is an overwhelming grief and we do not take your pain lightly.

We hear your heart cry that this is not fair and we understand that cry. In our finite eyes much suffering feels unfair, yet we cling to the truth that God is sovereign and good even when our circumstances are not. He sees every tear and He does not leave us without hope. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We pray that you would feel His nearness right now in a very real way, not as an idea but as a present comfort.

We also hear your fear of being alone. The Lord knows that fear and He answers it with His own promise. Deuteronomy 31:6 says Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid nor be scared of them; for Yahweh your God himself is he who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that He himself has said, I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you. Isaiah 41:10 says Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Even when family is taken from this earth, God remains a Father to the fatherless and a defender of widows, and He places the lonely in families, and we encourage you to lean into a Bible believing church family who can walk with you, sit with you, and bear this burden with you as the body of Christ.

We want to gently share the most important hope we have, because your request did not mention the name of Jesus. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and peace that passes understanding in life and in death. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. This is our only hope when we face eternity, that Jesus bore our sins on the cross, died and rose again, so that all who trust in Him will live even though they die. John 11:25 says Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. If your daughter knows Jesus as her Savior, then to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and Revelation 21:4 promises He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. If you are not certain of her faith or your own, we urge you even now to call upon the name of Jesus, to confess your need for Him, and to trust Him fully for salvation and for daily strength.

We pray together for you and for your daughter.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You brokenhearted for this mother and her daughter. Lord, You know this daughter by name, You formed her and You have numbered her days, and You have seen every moment of this five year fight. We ask for Your mercy and Your peace to rest upon her now. If it is Your will to heal her, we ask for healing, but if You are calling her home, we pray You would surround her with Your presence, take away fear and pain, and let her fall asleep in Jesus in perfect peace. We pray above all that she belongs to You through faith in Jesus and that she would have assurance of eternal life with You. For this dear mother, Father, hold her in Your arms. She has already buried a son and a husband and now faces the possible loss of her daughter. Comfort her as only You can, as the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in 2 Corinthians 1:3. Guard her from despair and from the lie that she is alone or forgotten. Show her that You will never leave her and that even in loneliness You are her ever present help. Give her strength for each hour, surround her with faithful believers who will not leave her side, and give her hope beyond the grave through the resurrection of Jesus. We ask all this in the precious and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We will continue to keep you and your daughter in our prayers. Please keep turning to the Lord in prayer and in His Word, and let other believers come close to you in these days. The Lord is near and He will carry you when you have no strength left. Psalm 61:2 says When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. May He be that Rock for you now and in the days to come.

We were so moved by your honesty about what you are carrying right now. Watching your daughter after five long years of fighting cancer, hearing the hospice nurse say it could be any time, while still carrying the loss of your son and your husband, it makes sense that your heart is saying this is not fair and that you feel the weight of facing the days ahead alone.

Grief is a natural response to such deep love and deep loss, and no two of us walk through it the same way. There is no right timeline or right way to feel. In these final days and in the weeks after, it can help to not carry this sorrow by yourself. If you have a pastor, a trusted friend or family member, or the hospice chaplain or social worker, we encourage you to let one or two people know exactly where things stand and ask them to stay close, to sit with you, to check in daily, to help with practical needs so you are not isolated in the vigil or afterward.

You do not have to figure out what life alone will look like all at once. Be gentle with yourself and take it one day at a time, sharing the sorrow as you are able.

Father, we lift this mother and her daughter to You in Jesus' name. Bring comfort and peace to her daughter in these hours, and surround this mother with Your nearness. When loneliness rises, remind her she is seen and held, and provide caring people around her day by day. Give her wisdom and rest as she walks this hard road. Amen.

Your sorrow has been heard with a heavy heart, and your request has been carried before the Lord with tender remembrance.

To face the near departure of a beloved daughter after five years of such hard fighting, and to bear this after the loss of a son and a husband, is a burden few can comprehend. It is no wonder you feel the weight of loneliness and say you will be alone. The Scripture does not make light of such grief, and neither does our Savior.

Our Lord Himself knew this loneliness. He was left alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy, and He uttered that gentle rebuke, What, could you not watch with Me one hour. His was a grand and gentle nature full of sympathy toward others, and therefore He felt the loss of it most keenly. He understands the narrow paths and close places where pilgrims must march in single file, where sweet counsel and company cannot follow. In that lonely place He is still with you, for He has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

There are seasons when the child of God, though fearing the Lord and obeying the voice of His servant, yet walks in darkness and has no light. It is the normal condition of a child of God to walk in the light, but He permits this thick gloom for a time, that we may learn to trust Him not by sight but by faith, even as a weaned child rests quietly in its mother's bosom, perfectly satisfied not with answers but with nearness.

We have prayed for you and for your daughter. We have asked the Lord that He would grant her, if it be His will, a peaceful passing free from distress, and above all that she may know the comfort of Christ who bore our sicknesses and sorrows. We have prayed that if she trusts in Him, she may have a clear assurance of His presence to guide her through the valley. And we have prayed for you, that the God of all comfort would keep you from being overwhelmed by this loneliness, that He would place godly company around you, and that you would know in your deepest soul that you are not alone, for the Father is with you.

May the Lord in His mercy give you grace to trust Him even when you have no light, to wait upon Him in this darkness, and to find that He draws near to the brokenhearted. We will continue to remember you both before the throne of grace, asking that His peace which passes all understanding may keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
