Beloved of All
Your care for your mother and your desire to bring her before the Lord is honoring to God, who commands us to honor our father and mother, and part of that honor is to care for them and to lift them up in prayer when they are weak or ill.
I join you in praying for her healing from this chest cough and cold, and for the Lord's protection over you all through the winter months. Jesus showed while he was on earth that he has power over sickness and infirmity, and Matthew reminds us that this was foretold by Isaiah, that he bore our sicknesses and carried our infirmities. That truth gives us confidence to come to him with every need.
There is much about healing that we do not fully understand. Scripture shows us that Jesus healed in many different ways. Sometimes he healed instantly with a word from a distance, sometimes with a touch, and sometimes the healing was gradual. Only one gradual healing is recorded in detail, but it reminds us that God is not limited to one pattern. All healing is from him, whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes he has built into our bodies. Those processes themselves are divine, because he created them.
What we do see consistently is that people came to Jesus in faith and persistence. There was a mother who came in great distress because her daughter was suffering terribly, and she would not stop pleading until she received help from him. Her faith triumphed because she kept coming to Jesus and would not go away. That is an example for us. Bring your mother to Jesus again and again. That moment when faith reaches out to him is the point where we receive what he has for us.
We do not always know why some are healed quickly and others more slowly, but we know that he is compassionate and that he hears prayer. So we will keep asking.
Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear mother before you. You see her chest and her cough and cold, and you know her need. We ask that you would touch her and bring healing, whether in a moment or day by day through the healing strength you have placed in the body. Ease her breathing, clear her chest, and restore her health. We also ask for your protecting hand over this whole family through the winter, to keep you from further illness and to give you peace and strength. Help us to trust you and to keep coming to you in faith. Amen.
