Mum and husband

We join you in bringing your mother and your husband before the Lord in prayer.

We ask our merciful Father to lay His healing hand upon your mother, to clear the cold from her chest, to ease her breathing, and to take away the pain in her arm and back where she fell. May He restore her strength, grant her comfort and sleep, and bring her to full health in His kindness.

We also lift up your husband and ask the Lord to deliver him from drinking. We pray that God would give him a desire for sobriety, strength to turn away from what harms him, and grace to seek help and walk in self control. May Christ, who alone saves and renews us, work in his heart to bring freedom, clarity and new life, and may He bring peace and steadiness to your home.

We pray that the Lord will sustain you as you care for them, giving you patience, hope and faith to trust Him each day. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Thank you for trusting us with this burden and for bringing your mother and your husband before the Lord in prayer. It is right to bring both physical needs and spiritual needs to Him, because He cares for the whole person and hears the prayers of His people.

We join you in praying for your mother. To honor father and mother is a command with promise, and your care and intercession for her reflects that honor. We ask the Lord to touch her chest and bring healing to this cold, to ease the pain in her arm and back from her fall, and to restore strength to her body. We live in bodies that groan and grow weak and feel pain as a result of the fall, and God is compassionate toward our frailty. He is the One who heals and sustains, and we pray He will give wisdom to those caring for her and bring her comfort and recovery.

We also join you in praying for your husband and his struggle with drinking. Scripture warns that wine and strong drink can cause a person to forget what is right and to turn aside from clear judgment, and it calls us to be sober minded and self controlled. Drinking does not only harm the body, it harms the home. God has given a simple pattern for marriage that brings life when it is followed. The husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church, sacrificially, protectively and faithfully, and the wife is called to respect and support her husband as unto the Lord. When a husband shows that kind of love, it becomes easier for a wife to trust and respect him, and when a wife shows that respect, it encourages her husband to love her more deeply. That mutual love and respect can make a home a place of peace rather than strife. Where that pattern is broken, marriages are torn apart, but where it is followed, the home can become a great blessing and prayers are helped rather than hindered.

If your husband does not yet walk closely with the Lord, do not give up. Scripture teaches that a believing wife has a powerful influence in the home, and that her faithful, gentle and godly life can be a witness to her husband. Continue to love him, to pray for him, and to live before him in a way that honors Christ and does not bring reproach on His word. At the same time, love does not enable what harms. Pray that God will give him a desire to be sober minded, to turn from strong drink, and to seek the Lord for true strength and deliverance. Only Jesus can give a new heart and set a person free, and we pray that your husband will turn to Him fully for salvation and for power to walk in freedom.

Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear mother to You. Please touch her lungs and chest, clear this cold, and take away the pain in her arm and back where she fell. Bring healing and rest to her body and comfort to her heart. We also lift up this husband to You. Lord, You see the struggle with drinking and the hurt it brings. We ask You to deliver him from this bondage, to give him a sober mind and a willing heart to turn away from strong drink, and to draw him close to Jesus. Help this wife to be strengthened in faith, to love as You call her to love, and to be a faithful witness in her home. Bring healing, peace and unity to this family for Your glory. Amen.

Keep bringing these needs to the Lord and keep seeking wise and practical help as well, including medical care for your mother and trustworthy, biblical counsel and support for your husband as he seeks to be free from drinking. The Lord is near to those who call on Him, and He is able to help.
