Thank you for sharing this burden so openly. To carry concern for loved ones who struggle in their minds is heavy, and God sees your love for them and your desire for them to be whole.
Scripture shows that God cares for the whole person. One of the apostles wrote to a friend that his prayer was that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. That was not given as a guaranteed promise for perfect health, but it does show the heart of God and it reveals a real connection. What happens in the inner life, in the soul and mind, affects the body, and what happens in the body affects the mind. The proverb says a joyful heart is good like a medicine, and we now know how true that is, that attitudes and inner peace can even affect the chemistry of the body. God made us as a whole, and He cares about your mental well being as well as your physical and spiritual well being.
We are also reminded that all who belong to Jesus are one family, one body. The whole family in heaven and on earth belongs to Him. You are not carrying this alone. We join with you as family in Christ to bring your loved ones before the Father. One of the great prayers in Ephesians is that God would strengthen His people with power through His Spirit in the inner person. That is our prayer for you and for those you love, that even as you seek relief and clarity of mind, God would strengthen the inner person by His Spirit, bring peace where there is turmoil, and bring steadiness where there is confusion.
We do believe that God heals, and He heals in many ways. In the Gospels we see Jesus healing with a touch, with a word from a distance, sometimes instantly and once gradually. Every process of healing is from Him, for He created our bodies and minds with the capacity to heal, and that natural process is itself divine. At times He brings a sudden deliverance, at other times a gradual restoration, and at other times a deep healing in the emotions and memories even while the struggle continues. There is much we do not understand about why some are healed quickly and others walk a longer path, but we know healing is not confined to one pattern and the Holy Spirit works as He wills, distributing His gifts according to His wisdom. There is no formula to force His hand, only trust in His goodness and power.
Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would bear our griefs and carry our infirmities, and the Gospels connect that directly to Jesus healing the sick and freeing those oppressed in mind and spirit. He has authority in the physical realm and in the spiritual realm, and He is compassionate toward those who suffer.
So we pray with you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we bring this dear mother and her loved ones before You. You know each one by name and You see their struggles of mind. We ask that You would bring freedom, clarity, peace and soundness of thought. Strengthen each one in the inner person by Your Spirit. Bring healing as You will, whether instantly or gradually, and work through every means You have provided, including wise care, counsel and support. Give this family Your peace that passes understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and help their souls to prosper in Your truth and love. Sustain this mother with hope and strength as she loves and intercedes for her family. We trust them into Your merciful hands and ask for Your will to be done in their lives. Amen.
Please keep bringing them before the Lord and stay connected to His people who love you and will continue to pray with you.
