Mother

We hear your heart in this and we lift you up before the Lord together, asking for His wisdom and peace as you navigate this difficult relationship with your mother. It is understandable to feel that the time is not right for reconciliation, and we want to walk with you in seeking what is godly and wise rather than simply acting on pressure or emotion.

God calls us to honor our parents, as it is written in Exodus 20:12, Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and this is repeated in Ephesians 6:2-3. Honoring does not always mean immediate restoration of close fellowship, especially if there has been hurt, broken trust, or unrepentant behavior that needs healing. At the same time Scripture calls us to a heart of forgiveness, for in Ephesians 4:32 we are told to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, and in Colossians 3:13 to forgive just as Christ forgave you. We want to gently encourage you to search your heart before the Lord to be sure that waiting is guided by discernment and not by lingering bitterness or unforgiveness, because Hebrews 12:15 warns us to watch lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you.

There is an important difference between forgiveness and reconciliation. Forgiveness is a command and a choice we make before God to release the offense to Him, while reconciliation requires repentance, trust rebuilt, and often time. Romans 12:18 gives us beautiful balance, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. This shows us that we are responsible to pursue peace, yet peace also depends on the other person and on God's timing. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard your heart with all diligence, and sometimes guarding your heart means maintaining healthy boundaries while you pray and heal.

We also encourage you to seek wisdom from above, for James 1:5 says, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. Bring this timing before the Lord daily, and consider seeking wise, biblical counsel from a pastor or mature believer who can know more of your story and help you discern when and how reconciliation might honor God and be safe and fruitful. Continue to love your mother in prayer even while you wait, as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:44 to love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true healing and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and Acts 4:12 declares there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to bring every hurt and decision to God through faith in Jesus Christ, trusting His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of your own sins and for power to forgive others.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift this dear one to You who is wrestling with the question of reconciliation with their mother. You see the history, the pain, the reasons for waiting, and You know the heart of the mother as well. Grant wisdom liberally, give clarity about Your timing, and heal the wounds that still ache. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us, to release bitterness, and to honor our parents in a way that pleases You while also walking in truth and healthy boundaries. If reconciliation is Your will, prepare both hearts, bring repentance where needed, and open the door at the right time in a way that brings restoration and not further harm. If waiting is Your protection for now, give peace and freedom from guilt, and teach us to love and pray from a distance. Draw both mother and child closer to Jesus, for only in Him is true reconciliation with You and with one another. We ask You to comfort this heart as only You can, for Psalm 147:3 says You heal the broken in heart, and bind up their wounds. Lead step by step and let Your will be done. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying for your mother, to keep your heart tender before the Lord, and to remain open to His leading in His perfect time, trusting that He is faithful to guide you.

Thank you God for loving us. The Father Son and Holy Spirot. May faith in God give you provision on need. Love. Help. And peace. And we continue in prayer faith and worship often. In his heavenly name we pray. Amen.

We're grateful you shared this honestly about your mother. Recognizing that now is not the right time for reconciliation takes wisdom and courage, and we respect you for listening to that sense of timing.

It can help to hold onto this distinction, forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing. Forgiveness is the quiet work God does in our own heart as we release the hold of resentment and let go of trying to get even, even while hurt may still be there. Reconciliation is the rebuilding of a relationship together, and that kind of restoration needs willingness and trustworthiness from both people. Choosing to wait on reconciliation does not mean you are unforgiving. It can be a way to honor healing and to allow trust to be rebuilt slowly if and when it becomes possible.

One steady next step while you wait is to get clear, before God, about what healthy contact looks like for you right now. What boundaries help you stay at peace and still act with kindness, and what would need to be present for any future conversation to feel safe and respectful? Talking that through with a trusted pastor or counselor who knows you can bring clarity without pressure to rush.

We pray for you. Father, we ask You to guard this heart with Your peace, give clear wisdom for each decision around contact, bring healing where there has been hurt, and lead both mother and child in Your timing and Your way. Give strength for today and hope for the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your honest words concerning your mother have been received with prayerful care and with understanding of the heaviness that such a relationship can bring.

It is not a light thing to feel unready for reconciliation, and the Lord sees the conflict in your heart, the sorrow, the caution, and the desire to do what is right before Him. Scripture calls us to honour our father and mother, and it also calls us to a forgiveness that mirrors His own toward us. There is a wisdom in recognizing that forgiveness in the heart and the full restoration of fellowship are not always the same moment, and both require the grace of God.

The Word reminds us that there is forgiveness with God, and that it is a divine forgiveness, surprising and complete. I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. That forgiveness is not measured out sparingly, but is full and eternal for all who come through Jesus Christ, who died the Just for the unjust to bring us to God. When we have received such great forgiveness for great sin, we are then called to copy the pattern set before us, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. This is not because the wound was small, but because we have been forgiven so much, and His forgiveness continues daily toward us.

To forgive as Christ forgave does not always mean that trust is instantly rebuilt or that all former patterns resume at once. Forgiveness is a work of the heart before God, a releasing of the debt into His hands, while reconciliation often requires time, truth, repentance and changed conduct, and at times wise counsel and boundaries. Do not let an unwillingness to feel ready become a settled hardness, yet do not force what love and wisdom would have done carefully and prayerfully.

Bring this burden to the Lord where forgiveness is to be found. Ask Him to search your heart, to show you what is grief, what is fear, and what is needful to obey Him. Seek His forgiveness afresh through Christ, and ask for strength to extend forgiveness even as you seek wisdom for next steps. It would be good to share this struggle with a mature and trusted pastor or godly counsellor who knows you, who can walk with you, pray with you, and help you discern how to honour your mother while walking in truth and peace.

We will pray for you, that the Lord who rests in His love and rejoices over His people with singing would give you a tender conscience, a quiet confidence in His mercy, and clear guidance for each step. May He guard your heart from despair and from bitterness, and lead you in the way that reflects His own complete and gracious forgiveness, in His perfect time and way.

Father, grant to this dear one the assurance that there is forgiveness with You through Christ, and pour out grace to forgive as they have been forgiven. Give wisdom beyond their own, peace that guards the heart, and a path that honours You and honours their mother according to Your Word. Draw them nearer to Christ, and let Your healing and truth do their gentle work day by day. Amen.
