Mother-in-law

Beloved of All
Jesus please let my mother-in-law answer her phone and please let her eat the food we bought her and take her pills. I am very concerned and it is so frustrating not being able to get a hold of her. Thank you Jesus, Amen.

We join with you in bringing your mother-in-law before the Lord and we hear the worry and frustration in your heart as you care for her. It is a beautiful thing that you are honoring her and seeking her wellbeing by providing food and concern for her medication, and God sees your love and diligence. Exodus 20:12 says Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and this honor extends also to the parents of our spouse as we become one family in marriage. Proverbs 16:31 reminds us Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness, and the Lord holds the elderly close to His heart.

We understand how distressing it is when you cannot get a hold of someone you love and you are unsure if she is eating or taking her medicine. The Lord invites us to bring that very anxiety to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. He cares both for you and for your mother-in-law. Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

We encourage you to continue to reach out in love and patience, for love is patient as we are told in 1 Corinthians 13:4, and to also take practical steps as God gives wisdom. If you continue to be unable to reach her, consider asking a nearby family member, neighbor, or trusted friend to check on her in person, or if you have serious concern for her safety to request a wellness check from local authorities, all while continuing to pray. Keep showing her grace and gentle encouragement about eating and taking her pills, trusting the Lord to work in her heart to receive the care you are offering.

We pray together with you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, and we thank You that we can come boldly to Your throne of grace. We lift up this dear mother-in-law to You. You know her needs, her health, her home, and where she is at this moment. We ask that You would watch over her and keep her safe, that You would prompt her to answer her phone so that her family can have peace, and that You would give her the desire and strength to eat the food that has been provided and to take her medication faithfully. Give her health and clarity and comfort, and let her feel Your presence and the love of her family. For the one who has prayed, we ask that You would calm the frustration and worry and replace it with Your peace which surpasses all understanding, and give wisdom to know how best to help and when to seek additional help. Help us all to rest in You as our refuge and strength. We thank You for hearing us and we trust this situation into Your loving hands. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We hear how worrying and frustrating this is, waiting for the phone to be answered and not knowing if she is eating or taking what she needs. It is a loving thing you have done to provide food and to keep watch over her medication, and we understand how helpless it can feel when you cannot reach her to make sure she is okay.

When someone we love is hard to reach, that uncertainty can sit heavy. If you have not been able to reach her after several tries over a stretch of time and your concern grows, it can help to have someone close by check in. A nearby family member, neighbor or friend who can knock on the door, or a call to her local non-emergency line for a welfare check, can give you peace of mind and make sure she gets timely help if she needs it. Keeping a simple log of when you called and what you observe can also help if you need to talk with her doctor or others who support her.

We are praying with you and for her.

Father, we lift this dear mother-in-law to You and ask for Your hand of protection over her today. We pray she will answer the phone soon, receive the food provided with strength to eat, and take her medication as needed. Give her family wisdom, calm and clear next steps while they wait, and let her feel loved and not alone. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord, please watch over this woman's mother-in-law. May she answer her phone, eat the food provided, and take her medication. Grant peace and patience to her concerned family. Amen.

- "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." — 1 Peter 5:7
- "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." — Philippians 4:6
- "The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow." — Psalm 146:9

Your concern for your mother in law is heard and it is right and loving that you have brought this burden to the Lord in prayer. To watch over an aging parent and not be able to reach her, to provide food and medicine and not know if it is received, is a trial that naturally brings frustration and fear.

Our Savior teaches us not to be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry, fretfulness and distress. That does not mean we are to be careless. Be prudent and do what love requires. You have done well to provide for her needs. Continue to do what is wise and within your reach, and then rest the outcome with God. As has been wisely said, the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits us to meet that difficulty. When you have done your best with what is in your hand, do not wring your hands, but cast your care upon Him who cares for you.

We are reminded that God is the health of our countenance and our God. The health of our entire being, spirit, soul and body, is in His hands. He gives life and health and all things, and He is able to keep and sustain your mother in law in her weakness. That truth gives a visible sign even upon our own faces, for when we hope in God we can yet praise Him even in the waiting.

So bring your request to Him again, not only with anxiety but with trust. Ask Him for wisdom to know what next step to take, and He will give it liberally. If she remains unreachable, consider what prudent help is near, whether a family member, a neighbor or others close by who might check on her welfare, while you continue to pray.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we lift up this dear mother in law to You. You see her and know her need. We ask that You would watch over her body and mind, that You would prompt her to answer her phone, to receive the food provided and to take the medicine she needs for her health. Keep her safe from harm and grant her strength. And for this one who loves her and is anxious, grant peace that passes understanding, wisdom for what to do next, and a calm trust in Your good providence. Help us all to hope in God and yet praise Him. In Jesus name, Amen.
