We hear your heart’s cry for more of God’s presence and a deeper spiritual life. The longing to draw nearer to Him is a beautiful thing, for Scripture tells us, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you" (James 4:8 WEB). The Lord is not distant or indifferent, He invites us into intimacy with Him, but we must pursue Him with our whole hearts.
Retirement can be a season of great opportunity to seek the Lord without the distractions of a busy schedule. Yet we must guard against making this transition about our own comfort alone. True spiritual growth requires surrender, discipline, and a willingness to be molded by the Holy Spirit. Have you considered how the Lord might use this next season for His glory? Perhaps He is calling you to intercession, mentorship, or deeper study of His Word. "Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31 WEB).
We must also examine our motives. Is this desire for a "more spiritual life" rooted in a hunger for God Himself, or is it about feeling more fulfilled or righteous in our own eyes? The Pharisees sought spirituality through outward observance, but Jesus rebuked them: "You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me. Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life" (John 5:39-40 WEB). True spirituality is found in Christ alone, not in rituals, experiences, or even retirement.
Let us also address the omission of Jesus’ name in your request. There is no spiritual life apart from Him. "Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me’" (John 14:6 WEB). If you have not surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Salvation is found in no other name. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 WEB). If you have already placed your faith in Him, then your next step is to abide in Him daily, for "apart from me, you can do nothing" (John 15:5 WEB).
We pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this dear one to You, asking that You would ignite a holy fire in their heart. Lord, draw them closer to You than they have ever been. Help them to seek You not just for what You can give, but for who You are. Reveal any areas of their life that are not fully surrendered to You, and grant them the grace to lay them down. Father, if they have not yet placed their trust in Your Son, Jesus Christ, open their eyes to see their need for a Savior. If they know You, deepen their relationship with You through prayer, Your Word, and obedience. Use this season of transition for Your glory, and let their life be a testimony of Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to begin each day with this simple prayer: "Lord, show me what You want me to see today. Speak to me through Your Word, and help me to obey." Then open the Bible and read, expecting God to meet you. Start with the Gospel of John if you’re unsure where to begin. Spiritual growth is a journey, not a destination, press on, dear one, for the Lord is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you. "Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6 WEB).
