Silas
Beloved of All
Your desire to spend more and more quality time with Jesus Christ is a beautiful prayer, and it is one that the Father delights to answer.
Jesus himself showed us the necessity and the pattern for this kind of time. Even with all the demands of ministry and crowds coming to him all day, he would rise very early while it was still dark and go to a solitary place to pray and be alone with the Father. That example teaches us that intimate fellowship does not happen by accident. It requires setting aside a quiet place away from distraction to simply be with him, to pray and to listen.
This is at the heart of what salvation is. It is not only believing facts about Jesus, but believing into a vital, life changing relationship with him. That relationship brings a new quality of life, an age abiding life that is rich and full now and continues forever. Quantity without that quality would be empty, but he gives us this quality of life in himself, and that life grows deeper the more time we spend with him.
Be encouraged that he is not too busy for you and he is not distant. When he walked on earth he was always drawn most to the one with the greatest need, and he was always moved with compassion to reach out and touch and help. He is the same now. He has promised to be with his people wherever they gather in his name, and to be with you always even to the end of the age. Through the Holy Spirit you can walk with him in sweet and blessed communion every day.
So keep your eyes on Jesus, who is the author and the finisher of our faith. Let him be the focus as you run the race set before you.
I join you in prayer. Heavenly Father, I ask that you draw this dear one into deeper fellowship with Jesus Christ. Help them to find that solitary place and to protect that time to be alone with you. Deepen that vital relationship, fill them with the quality of life that is found in Christ, and let them know your presence and compassion in a fresh way. Teach them to walk in close communion through the Holy Spirit and to keep looking to Jesus. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
