Beloved of All
The ache of financial pressure is deeply real, and the weight of that need is not lost on me. When the mind is consumed with how to pay the next bill or buy groceries, it can feel all-consuming. Yet in that very desperation, a caution from Scripture rises up: the love of money is the root of every kind of evil. It is not money itself that is wicked, but the heart’s grip on it, the restless craving for more. So much of the world’s misery, the drug trade, the exploitation of the vulnerable, even wars between nations, traces back to that one greedy root. The enemy would love to use this financial strain to plant that same love in your heart, to make you believe that having more money is the ultimate answer.
The truth is, money is one of the strangest powers we handle. It can feel like omnipotence, opening every door. But just as quickly, it becomes impotence, making a slave of the one who chases it, binding them so they can never truly enjoy what they have. Jesus warned that you cannot serve both God and money. The call is not to seek after things that rust and decay, but to use whatever resources we possess for eternal purposes. The question shifts from “How much of my money can I spare for God?” to “How much of God’s money, which He has entrusted to me, should I spend on myself?” That reorients everything.
God is not in need of your cash. He owns every resource on this earth. What He desires is your heart, your fellowship, a love that responds freely rather than out of duty. Sometimes financial hardship comes because we have overlooked that priority. Perhaps the storehouse of heaven feels closed because the storehouse of our own giving has been shut. Examine whether you have first given yourself to the Lord, and then, out of that surrender, allowed your handling of money to reflect your trust in Him.
Remember also the example from Scripture where human need took precedence. God makes provision for the hungry. He sees your practical necessity. Bring that need to Him directly, with simple, believing prayer. James reminds us plainly: you have not because you ask not. Lay out your situation before the Lord, not with a spirit of demanding, but with open hands, asking Him to supply and to teach you contentment and wisdom in the process.
Do not let the weight of this drive you into the slavery of endless debt or the empty promises of a world that says a new purchase will satisfy your soul. That system is a cruel master. Instead, take whatever step you can today, even a small one, to act in faith. There is a time to stop merely talking and start moving. If you have neglected giving to the Lord’s work when you did have a little, set that right. Trust that as you honor Him, He can make a way. The redemption of your soul is precious, and no amount of money can buy it. Let this trial push you deeper into reliance on the One who promises to supply every need.
