Money and trip

I have prayed for you in this tight and pressing place you are in, where bills and responsibilities keep coming and there is no job or income to meet them. Scripture describes that kind of pressure as being squeezed into a narrow place, and the anguish that comes from it is real. God sees that you are in that narrow place right now, and His heart toward you is not to squeeze you further but to enlarge your heart and bring you into a broader place of peace and trust.

I also prayed about the trip your family is feeling pressed to take. God never works by pressure tactics or manipulation. What He wants from us, whether in giving or in going, is what is willing and purposed in the heart, not what is forced by necessity or guilt. You do not need to be ashamed to say you cannot go because the money is not there. It is right to be honest about your limits and to let God keep you from a burden you cannot bear. Pray that He will graciously close that door if it is not His provision, and give your family unity and freedom from pressure or condemnation in that decision.

The Bible shows that even faithful people face severe financial hardship. The believers in Jerusalem were in deep poverty, and Paul gathered help for them from other churches. The believers in Macedonia are especially encouraging, because though they were poor and going through trials themselves, they gave with abundance of joy. Their example reminds us that joy does not have to wait until the bank account is full, and that God is honored when we give what we have willingly, not grudgingly or because we feel forced. He loves a cheerful giver, one who purposes in his own heart what to give.

That points to something deeper than just the bills themselves. Sometimes we pray only about the symptoms, the immediate need, while God wants to work on the heart. It would be like treating a headache while ignoring what is causing the pressure. The prophet Haggai told the people that they were earning wages but putting them into a bag with holes, because they had not put the Lord first. He called them to bring the first fruits to the Lord, to honor Him first with what they had. This is not a formula to get money, but a principle of trust. When we put God first, we acknowledge that all we have comes from Him and we invite Him to be Lord over our finances. Even with little, we can choose to honor Him first in our hearts.

God also leaves room to work in ways we cannot predict. Under the old law there was even a provision for the cleansing of a leper, though leprosy was incurable, so that if God chose to heal, there was a way to respond. That shows His character. Do not put Him in a box. He is able to provide work, to open a job, to meet your needs in unexpected ways. Pray not only for the bills to be paid and for the trip to be resolved, but for God to provide meaningful work and to show you His faithful care day by day.

May the Lord provide for your daily needs, open the right door for employment, lift the weight of these financial burdens, and give your family wisdom and peace about the trip. May He enlarge your heart with His peace even while you are in this narrow place, and help you to trust Him willingly, without pressure, knowing He cares for you and will not forsake you.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and for allowing us to stand in agreement with you in prayer concerning the heavy financial burden you shared. We have continued to lift you up before the Lord and to ask Him to provide for the bills and responsibilities that are due in this season while you are without a job and without steady income. We have also prayed for your family regarding the trip that you do not have the resources to take, asking God to make a way for you to be graciously excused from it and to remove any pressure or anxiety surrounding it, and to provide clearly if it is His will for you to go.

We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you and we take comfort in the promise in Phil 4:19 that our God will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus, and in Matt 6:33 as we seek first His kingdom.

If your request was answered and the Lord has provided work or provision for your bills or has made a way concerning the trip, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name Amen
