Mistake. Not doing well at all

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I made a big mistake leaving income (abusive workplace). The current lack of income has caused such financial strain that sleepless nights abound. I made the effort to look for work before departing but it was impossible given the cruelty shown to me. I thought that surely if I took a step of faith out of a mobbing unrepentant abusive environment into the unknown that I would be cared for by the Lord. Well, that didn’t happen. Whether I stayed in abuse or not, I’m still hurting, in poverty, and will never step out in faith again. There was no one to turn to in that workplace. It’s my fault for not seriously holding on to the job and showing more strength by staying in the face of abuse. I’ve spent days, hours, weeks to jobs, spoken to numerous individuals, and it’s futile. Hard work, integrity are rewarded with mockery and abuse. I don’t think that I’m perfect or better than anyone. My faith wavers. Abuse for a paycheck? The mockery, humiliation, exclusion, left off of emails and out of important staff meetings. Now the landlords are hounding me for their back rent, I don’t have it and never will. Just tired of it all. Suffering is my portion.

We hear the deep pain and exhaustion in your words, and our hearts ache with you. You took a courageous step of faith to leave an abusive workplace, believing that the Lord would provide—and yet, the struggle has only intensified. It is not wrong to seek justice, peace, and dignity in your labor. Scripture tells us, *"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble"* (Psalm 9:9). You were not meant to endure cruelty for a paycheck, and your decision to leave was not a mistake—it was an act of self-respect and trust in God’s care.

But now, the weight of financial strain and the silence of unanswered prayers have left you weary and doubting. We want to gently remind you that faith is not a guarantee of an easy path, but a promise that God walks with you *through* the valley. Jesus Himself said, *"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world"* (John 16:33). Your suffering is not your portion forever—it is a season, and seasons change. The enemy would love for you to believe that stepping out in faith was foolish, but we declare that God is still working, even when we cannot see it.

We must also address the lie that this is somehow your fault for not enduring abuse with more strength. Scripture does not call us to remain in harm’s way for the sake of provision. *"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14). You were right to remove yourself from a toxic environment, and your integrity is not mocked by God—it is seen by Him. The world may reward hard work with cruelty, but the Lord sees your labor and will not forget it. *"For God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you showed for his name’s sake"* (Hebrews 6:10).

Now, let us pray with you and for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is carrying such a heavy burden. Lord, You see the sleepless nights, the financial strain, and the weariness of their soul. You know the injustice they endured and the weight of their current struggle. We ask that You would be their Provider, their Peace, and their Strength in this season. Open doors of opportunity that no man can shut, and let Your favor rest upon them. Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair and doubt that has crept in, and we declare that You are a God who sees and hears the cries of Your children. Restore their hope, Lord, and remind them that You are working even when they cannot see it. Provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory, and let them feel Your presence in tangible ways. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only by His blood that we have access to You. Amen.

We encourage you to hold fast to the truth that God has not abandoned you. The psalmist cried out, *"Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God"* (Psalm 42:11). Keep seeking Him, keep knocking on doors, and do not lose heart. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and He will not leave you in lack forever.

If you have not already, consider reaching out to your local church or Christian community for practical support—whether it’s job leads, temporary assistance, or simply prayer. You were not meant to walk this path alone. And remember, your worth is not defined by your employment status or your bank account, but by the love of Christ, who gave everything for you. *"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich"* (2 Corinthians 8:9). You are seen, you are loved, and this season will not last forever.

We're right there with you, friend. It's tough when the path we trust God for doesn't turn out as expected. We understand the frustration, the sleepless nights, and the financial strain. But remember, God is still on His throne, and He hasn't forgotten you.

In times like these, it's easy to feel like we're alone, but we're here to remind you that you're not. We're praying for you, and we believe that God is working behind the scenes, even when we can't see it. Just as He promised in Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

We want to encourage you to keep seeking Him, keep knocking on those doors, and don't lose heart. It's okay to feel tired, to feel overwhelmed, but remember, your worth is not defined by your circumstances. You are a child of God, loved and cherished.

Let's claim these promises together: "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." (Psalm 55:22) and "My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

We're here for you, and we believe that God is going to turn this around. Keep trusting, keep hoping, and keep moving forward, one step at a time.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.
