Misquotation and misinterpretation of bible verse

Good and Faithful Servant
Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. - Proverbs 10:19. This verse is often misinterpreted by ### to get into Hikikomori as too much talk would lead into sin so by complete isolation and block off from the world will not lead to sin and that is very sensible and he often tell people to get into Hikikomori and to obey scripture is to be in Hikikomori as talking too much would lead to sin.

We are deeply concerned by this misinterpretation and misuse of Scripture, particularly Proverbs 10:19, which states: *"In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely."* This verse is not a call to complete isolation or withdrawal from society, as some are wrongly suggesting. The Bible does not endorse Hikikomori—a lifestyle of extreme social withdrawal—as a godly or biblical practice. In fact, Scripture calls us to engage with the world, to be salt and light, and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 5:13-16, Mark 12:31).

The context of Proverbs 10:19 is about wisdom in speech, not about cutting off all human interaction. The verse warns against careless, sinful, or foolish talk, not against all communication. God created us for community, not isolation. Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us, *"Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."* Isolation is not a biblical solution; it is often a sign of fear, pride, or spiritual deception.

We must also address the dangerous idea that obedience to Scripture means withdrawing from the world entirely. Jesus Himself prayed in John 17:15, *"I do not pray that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one."* We are called to be *in* the world but not *of* it (John 17:16). Complete isolation is not holiness—it is disobedience to God’s command to love, serve, and witness to others.

Furthermore, this misinterpretation could lead people into spiritual deception, depression, and even despair. God designed us for fellowship, both with Him and with one another. Proverbs 27:17 says, *"Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance."* We need the accountability, encouragement, and correction that come from godly relationships.

Let us also rebuke the misuse of Scripture to justify fear or laziness. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, *"For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."* If someone is using Proverbs 10:19 to encourage others to withdraw from society, they are twisting God’s Word to fit their own fears or ungodly preferences. This is a serious matter, as Jesus warned in Matthew 24:24 that false teachers would arise to deceive even the elect.

We must also address the fact that this teaching does not mention Jesus Christ, who is the only way to God (John 14:6). Salvation comes through faith in Him alone, not through isolation or any other human effort. If someone is promoting Hikikomori as a biblical practice without pointing people to Christ, they are leading others astray.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Savior. We ask for Your wisdom and discernment to recognize and reject false teachings that twist Your Word. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of deception that would lead Your people into isolation rather than into the community and purpose You have for them. We pray for those who have been misled by this teaching, that You would open their eyes to the truth of Your Word and draw them back into fellowship with You and with Your people.

Father, we ask that You would heal any wounds or fears that have driven people into isolation. Help them to see that You have not called them to withdraw from the world but to engage with it in a way that honors You. Give them the courage to step out in faith, to build godly relationships, and to use their words wisely for Your glory.

Lord, we also pray for those who are promoting this false teaching. Soften their hearts, convict them of their error, and lead them to repentance. May they come to understand the true meaning of Your Word and use it to build up Your people rather than lead them astray.

We thank You, Father, that You are a God who speaks, who listens, and who calls us into relationship with You and with one another. Help us to walk in wisdom, to speak with grace, and to live in a way that reflects Your love and truth. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

To those who have been influenced by this teaching, we encourage you to seek godly counsel and to study Scripture in its full context. Do not let fear or misinterpretation keep you from the abundant life God has for you (John 10:10). If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in Him as your Savior, and commit your life to following Him. Only then will you find true peace, purpose, and community.

We understand the concern and want to add our voice to the conversation. It's indeed troubling to see Scripture twisted to promote isolation. Proverbs 10:19 is a wisdom verse, not a call to withdraw from society. It's about being mindful of our speech, not our presence. God created us for community, not to live in seclusion.

We've seen firsthand how this misinterpretation can lead to spiritual stagnation and even despair. It's important to remember that complete isolation isn't holiness; it's often a sign of fear or spiritual deception. We're called to be in the world, not of it, engaging with others and being salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16).

Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come before You, seeking Your wisdom and guidance. Help us to discern and reject false teachings that twist Your Word. Lord, we pray for those influenced by this misinterpretation, that You would open their eyes to the truth and draw them back into fellowship with You and Your people. Heal any wounds or fears driving them to isolate, and give them courage to engage with the world in a way that honors You.

We also pray for those promoting this false teaching, Lord. Soften their hearts, convict them of their error, and lead them to repentance. Help them to understand the true meaning of Your Word and use it to build up Your people.

Thank You, Father, for being a God who speaks, listens, and calls us into relationship. Help us to walk in wisdom, speak with grace, and live in a way that reflects Your love and truth. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
