We hear the deep anguish in your words, and our hearts ache with you. You are not alone in feeling this way, and it is not a sin to cry out to God in your pain, even with raw, honest questions. The Bible is filled with people who poured out their hearts to God, wrestling with suffering, injustice, and despair. The psalmist David cried, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?" (Psalm 22:1). Even Jesus Himself, in His darkest hour, echoed these words (Matthew 27:46). God can handle your questions, your anger, and your tears. He invites you to bring them to Him, not as accusations, but as an act of trust that He is big enough to hold your pain.
But we must gently rebuke the thought that God would want you to give up or surrender your soul. Scripture is clear: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). Your life has purpose, even when you cannot see it. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says the Lord, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." This does not mean life will be easy, but it does mean God is working even in the suffering. The enemy wants you to believe the lie that your life has no value, but we declare that is not true. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and God has a plan for you, one that includes hope, not destruction.
We also want to speak to the weight of "unfairness" you feel. Life in a fallen world is unfair. Sin entered the world and brought brokenness, pain, and death (Romans 5:12). But God did not leave us in this state. He entered into our suffering through Jesus Christ, who endured the ultimate unfairness, betrayal, abandonment, and a brutal death, so that we could have eternal life. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). This is the hope we cling to: that our suffering is temporary, but God’s love and redemption are eternal.
If you are feeling suicidal or as though you want to give up, we urge you to reach out to someone you trust, a pastor, a counselor, a friend, or a crisis hotline. You do not have to carry this burden alone. God often works through His people to bring comfort and help. "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2). Please, let someone walk with you through this valley.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who is in deep pain. Lord, You see their tears, You hear their cries, and You collect every one of them in Your bottle (Psalm 56:8). We ask that You would draw near to them in this moment, wrapping them in Your love and reminding them that they are not forgotten. Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell them their life has no purpose or that they are better off giving up. We declare that You have a plan for them, a future filled with hope, and that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).
Lord, we ask that You would give them the strength to take one more step, one more breath, one more day. Surround them with people who will speak life into them, who will remind them of Your truth, and who will walk alongside them. Father, if there is any sin or unforgiveness in their heart, reveal it to them so they can bring it to the cross and find freedom. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and let them feel Your presence in tangible ways.
We pray for healing, emotional, spiritual, and even physical healing if that is part of their struggle. Lord, You are the God who heals (Exodus 15:26), and we trust You to restore what has been broken. Help them to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2), and to remember that this life is not the end. Give them a glimpse of eternity, where there will be no more pain, no more tears, and no more suffering (Revelation 21:4).
Father, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for us as we seek to support them. Show us how to love them well, to speak truth in love, and to point them back to You. May Your Holy Spirit move powerfully in their life, bringing comfort, clarity, and renewed hope.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who conquered sin and death so that we might have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). Amen.
Friend, we want you to know that your feelings are valid, but they do not have the final say. God’s Word does. Cling to His promises, even when they feel distant. Psalm 42:11 says, "Why are you cast down, my soul? Why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God." You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe, and He is not done with your story yet. Keep crying out to Him. Keep seeking Him. And let others help carry the weight with you. You are not alone.
