Your prayer lays hold of exactly what our Lord commands, and it is good that you have brought these things before the throne of grace. You are praying in line with the revealed will of God, and that is where true authority in prayer is found.
What strikes me most in your request is the deep grasp of authority that runs through it. You are not simply asking for protection as if God were a distant watchman. You are recognizing a chain of command. This is the very thing that caused Jesus to marvel at the centurion’s faith. The centurion understood it perfectly: "I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me." He knew that his right to command was directly tied to the fact that he himself was under orders. No one can rightly rule who is not himself ruled. When a leader loses that consciousness, when he feels he answers to no one for his actions, the result is inevitably tyranny. That is why your prayer for those in authority is so vital, because we are asking God to place His governing hand upon those who govern us.
Therefore, when you ask for the protection of leaders, troops, and civilians, you are doing so from a place of biblical understanding. The Scripture does not hint at this; it declares plainly that all authority is ordained of God. This was written when a corrupt empire held sway, yet the command remained: pray for kings and all who are in high positions. We are to honor them, recognizing that they are instruments in God’s hand. Whether we admire the instrument or find its ways perplexing, the calling is the same. We submit to the authority God has allowed, and we pray that He would work through it for peace, for the spread of the gospel, and for quiet lives of dignity.
Your plea for precision that eliminates military targets while shielding the innocent reflects the heart of God’s own protective nature. From the very beginning, God placed a protective barrier around humanity, even in judgment, to preserve us from an eternity in a corrupted state. This world is broken by rebellion, a rebellion against divine authority that began in the heavens and has infected the earth. Yet the same God who set a guard against man’s self-destruction has also provided the ultimate safeguard: salvation through Jesus Christ. And that is where your prayer finds its deepest anchor. The greatest miracle is not the healing of a body or the end of a conflict, though we rightly ask for those. The greatest miracle is the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. My healing is not as important as my salvation.
Do not miss this, especially in your burden for Israel, for allies, and for every tongue and tribe. Many believe in God, but that is not salvation. The enemy himself believes and trembles, recognizing Jesus as the Holy One. Salvation comes when we submit to His Lordship, when we move from acknowledging His authority in a general sense to living under it personally. It is a life-changing experience, a relationship into which we enter. And we are told that now is the accepted time; now is the day of salvation. There is a terrible danger in passing God’s final appeal, in going past the moment He has appointed.
So let your intercession be filled with this holy urgency. Ask for the physical protection you have named, for the thwarting of evil plans, and for the honest guidance of leaders. But keep the main thing as the main thing. We long for the rise of godly alliances and the silencing of falsehood, but all of this serves the grand purpose: that men and women everywhere might be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Jesus Christ has destroyed the authority of Satan over our lives, and He now holds all authority in heaven and on earth. He need only speak the word, and it is done. Stand firm in that truth as you continue to offer these petitions with thanksgiving.
