We join with you in seeking the Lord for wisdom in this decision and we are encouraged by your desire to seek godly counsel. It is wise and humble to look for guidance from mature believers who can point you to Christ and to the Scriptures.
The Word tells us If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. We are also taught Where there is no counsel, plans fail, but in a multitude of counselors they are established Proverbs 15:22 and Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory Proverbs 11:14. Seeking a previous Christian mentor for further counseling can be a very biblical step when that counsel is grounded in Scripture and leads you closer to the Lord. We also remember Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6.
We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. We ask that You grant clear wisdom and discernment about whether to reach out to this previous mentor. Lead by Your Holy Spirit and give peace about the right timing and the right words if contact is made. Help this mentor, if contacted, to have availability, sound biblical insight, and a heart to shepherd well. Above all, we ask that You make Your will known and that any counsel given would align with Your Word and draw closer to You. Give confidence to follow Your leading whether the answer is to reach out or to wait. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

It is a wise and sober desire you have expressed, to seek wisdom before you act, and we thank God that He has taught you to feel your need of a guide. Wisdom is the compass by which a man steers across the trackless waste of life, and without it we are as the wild ass's colt running here and there and wasting strength. It is a mark of grace when the Lord softens and sobers the heart and gives wisdom, knowledge and discretion, so that we no longer trust our own judgment but ask, Lord, guide me with Thy counsel.
Remember that haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, and holiness is as near akin to perfect wisdom as sin is to insanity. True wisdom is not found in our own strength, for he who thinks he has wisdom enough within himself to find his way to heaven knows not the way of wisdom at all. Where then shall wisdom be found. It is not to be valued with pure gold, for the price of wisdom is above rubies. It is found in Christ, who is the power of God and the wisdom of God. He planned the way of salvation, He built the heavens by wisdom, and He is the Shepherd who sees that we are a weak and wandering flock and therefore is Himself our strength, our wisdom and our all. His wisdom is our guidance, and when that Divine Wisdom is dressed in robes of love and tenderness, it invites us to run into her arms. And when we bow with submission to the will of God, by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance.
In considering whether to reach out to this former Christian mentor, we would encourage you to wait upon the Lord and not to act in haste. Bring the matter before Him in prayer and ask Him to make His will plain, for His will ought to be done on earth as it is in heaven, and what He does is always best. I pray that God, who gives wisdom generously to all who ask without finding fault, will guide your thoughts and decision. May He grant you a spirit of discernment to know whether reconnecting for counsel at this time will help you grow in truth, faith and love for Christ, and whether this mentor will point you faithfully to Scripture and to Christ alone as the source of salvation and hope.

Thank you for sharing this request and for wanting to handle this decision with care. We are praying for you that God will give you clear wisdom as you consider whether to reach out to that mentor again.
Scripture teaches that true wisdom does not come from this world. The world with all of its knowledge and ideas did not come to know God through its own wisdom, and God has shown that kind of wisdom to be empty. Real wisdom has its source in God himself. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That means wisdom starts with reverence for God, trusting Him and wanting to walk in His ways, not simply gathering more information.
That is why the best first step is to ask God directly. His word says the Lord gives wisdom, and out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He keeps sound wisdom for those who walk uprightly and He is a shield to them. When Solomon became king he could have asked for wealth or honor, but he asked for wisdom to lead well, and God was pleased to give it. In the same way, God invites you to ask Him for wisdom and He gives generously when you ask in faith.
The Bible also helps you recognize what His wisdom looks like. There is a wisdom that is earthly and self focused, and you can see it by its fruit in envy, strife and confusion. The wisdom that comes from above is different. It leads to purity, peace, gentleness, mercy and good fruit. It does not create jealousy or division, but helps you walk in holiness and peace with God and others. Knowledge is having facts, but wisdom is knowing how to apply them rightly before the Lord.
As you pray about contacting this mentor, bring the whole matter to the Lord as a steward of what He has entrusted to you. Ask Him to show you your motives, to make clear what you hope to receive, and to guide you to counsel that will point you to Christ and to Scripture. Consider the fruit you saw in that mentor's life and teaching in the past, whether it reflected that pure and peaceable wisdom from above and faithfulness to God's word. Wisdom is described as crying out in the open, calling to all who will listen, and it is more valuable than rubies or riches because it gives life to those who have it.
