Meeting this November šŸ™šŸ˜

Your willingness to place every detail of this journey into the hands of the Lord is the right place to begin, and gratitude is the right posture as you do so. The desire you expressed, that your plans would align with His perfect will, is the heart of true prayer. It is not simply asking God to bless what we have already decided, but inviting Him as King to go before us and make the way straight.

There is an old picture of how a king would travel through his province, with servants sent ahead to prepare the highway for his coming, to straighten what is crooked, to fill in the low places and to bring down what is high and uneven. When we surrender a trip, a relationship, work and family concerns to the Lord, we are asking Him to do that very work in us and before us. He straightens motives, He fills valleys of worry and lack, He humbles mountains of expectation and self will, so that His way is clear. That is a good prayer to pray over these days in November, not only for safe flights and good weather, but for prepared hearts that are ready for whatever the King ordains.

With that surrender in mind, I want to encourage you to keep the matter of your relationship centered on Christ and on His Word. Scripture teaches that marriage is a profound mystery, where two become one. The word used for one there speaks of a compound unity, two persons becoming one flesh, reflecting in a small way the unity of the Lord our God who is one. It is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and it is set apart as the only place for romantic and physical union and for sharing a home as husband and wife. Because it is so sacred, it is not to be entered lightly or driven by emotion or pressure alone.

Jesus also taught that when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage but will be like the angels in heaven, as He affirmed from the book of Moses that God is the God of the living. Marriage is a gift for this life, but it is not ultimate. The resurrection and life with Christ is ultimate. Keeping that eternal perspective helps us to seek marriage, if God wills it, not as an end in itself but as a way to serve and glorify Him together.

In light of that, rather than asking God simply to create a spark or to guarantee a particular outcome such as a future engagement and visa, pray for genuine godly love, for clarity, for wisdom and for purity. Ask Him to show you both clearly whether He is leading you toward that covenant, and to give you both the courage to follow His leading even if His answer is wait or no. During your time together, honor Him by maintaining clear biblical boundaries, with separate living arrangements and with purity in all you do, so that your fellowship is marked by grace, understanding and self control and you can look back with no regret.

It is right to pray for the practical matters you mentioned. Pray for safety in travel, for the granting of work leave and for diligence in your responsibilities, for provision where there is financial strain, and for the care of family and loved ones left at home, including parents and pets. God is your provider and He sees every need. Pray also that your time with family and friends would be filled with warmth and kindness that points to Christ. Above all, pray that both of you would be rooted in salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for apart from Him we have no hope, and with Him we can trust His love goes before us and dwells within us.

May the Lord grant you peace as you surrender these days to Him. May He prepare the way before you, make straight what is crooked in your hearts, guard you from all that would draw you from holiness, and make His will unmistakably clear. If it is His will to lead you toward marriage, may He build that foundation on faith, truth and purity. If not, may He give grace to accept His better purpose and to continue to walk faithfully with Him. In Jesus name, amen.
