Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing this honest prayer before the Lord. Your faith in Jesus Christ who died for our sins and your desire for His healing touch over your whole life, body, spirit and mind, is precious and He hears you when you call on Him.
The Scripture shows that Jesus cared deeply for the physical needs of people. He did not use His power to serve Himself, but He freely used it to bring healing and help to others. Matthew, writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells us that when Jesus healed many who were sick, it was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah, that He Himself bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. That promise includes more than forgiveness of sin alone. It reaches to our bodies as well, because His body was broken for us.
I believe God still heals today, and that all healing is from Him. Sometimes He heals at once by a sovereign work of grace, as He made provision even for those with leprosy to be cleansed and restored. Sometimes He heals gradually through the natural processes He Himself placed within our bodies. That gradual work is no less divine, because He is the One who created those processes. And sometimes His healing reaches first to the mind and heart, bringing peace and wholeness inside even while the body is still waiting for strength. He cares for the whole person, physical, emotional and spiritual.
At the same time the Bible helps us keep a balanced hope. To assume that God must grant physical healing in every case and in the way we ask is not what Scripture teaches. The apostle Paul prayed three times for his own thorn in the flesh to be removed, and the Lord chose not to remove it but to give grace to endure it. There is much about healing we do not fully understand, including why some are healed quickly and others are not. Good people still suffer sickness and pain, not as a direct punishment for something they have done, but because we live in a fallen world where sin has brought corruption, weakness and death to all bodies. These bodies will return to dust, and we groan to be delivered from this weakness, knowing the real healing that lasts forever is the new life God gives to our spirit.
That is why the spiritual is the most important. Caring for the body has value in this life, but godliness and the health of the soul have value both now and for eternity. The apostle John wrote a loving wish for a friend, that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. It was not a guarantee of perfect health for everyone, but it shows the close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. A joyful heart that trusts the Lord is like good medicine, while fear and heaviness can wear the body down.
So we will pray with you with confidence and with trust in His wisdom and love, asking Him to do what is best.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we thank You for Your love and for the blood of Jesus shed for the forgiveness of sins. We thank You that You are a good Father who hears prayer. We ask You to lay Your healing hand upon this dear one from the top of the head to the soles of the feet. Touch every place of pain, remove every infection and everything that should not be in the body, and bring restoration physically, spiritually and mentally. Let Your Holy Spirit remain near to give comfort, peace and strength each day. We ask for Your will to be done, trusting Your power and Your mercy, and believing that whether Your healing comes at once or through the healing processes You have placed in the body, it comes from You. Give a merry and trusting heart, and keep this soul prospering in Your grace. We pray this in the name of Jesus, amen.
