Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly and for allowing us to pray for you. Your hurt is clear, and God sees both your struggle to keep this job He has provided and the pain of feeling let down by the one you trusted most.
God gave you this work after a year of prayer, and it is right to want to protect it and to be faithful in it. It is also painful when an agreement to help you get to work is not kept, especially when you are just starting and have no paycheck yet. In marriage, God calls a husband to love, cherish and provide for his wife, and to live with her in understanding. When he shifts blame or makes excuses instead of helping, that wounds trust. It is understandable that you feel hurt, confused and even betrayed.
Marriage is honorable before God, and He intends it to preserve holiness and peace. It is not marriage itself that creates these hardships, but how we live within it. Scripture calls us to follow peace with all people and holiness, and within marriage that means faithfulness, honesty, and caring for one another's needs. There is always hope that God can work through a faithful wife or husband to strengthen and reclaim the other, but that requires both to turn toward God and toward each other with humility, not with blame.
Your desire to forgive, even while you feel stuck and unable to do it, is itself a work of grace. Forgiveness does not mean saying the hurt did not matter or that wrong behavior is acceptable. It means releasing bitterness into God's hands so that you are not held captive by it. The betrayal of trust is a deep wound, like the betrayal we see in Scripture when one close to Jesus turned against Him for selfish gain. God understands that kind of pain, and He alone can soften hearts and heal what is broken. You cannot forgive in your own strength, but you can ask Him daily to help you to will what He wills and to give you His love for your husband and his family.
Please consider these practical steps as you pray. Seek a trusted pastor or mature Christian couple in your church to walk with you both, to help you communicate without turning issues into accusations, and to help you make a clear plan for transportation and finances until your paycheck comes. If you are living apart because no one would receive you together, ask the Lord to open a way for you to live together as husband and wife as He intends, and ask your church family for wise counsel and practical help in the meantime. Keep bringing your needs to God, who is your provider, and keep doing your work faithfully as service to Him.
We pray for you now.
Father in heaven, we come to You through Jesus Christ alone, our only hope of salvation and grace. Thank You for providing this job in answer to prayer. Please make a way for our sister to get to work each day and to keep what You have given her. Provide for her needs, give her strength and peace of mind, and guard her from discouragement. Work in her husband's heart to love his wife as Christ loves the church, to keep his promises, to provide help without selfishness, and to speak with kindness and truth instead of blame. Help them both to seek peace and holiness in their marriage, to speak honestly, to listen humbly, and to bear with one another in love. Teach her how to forgive as You have forgiven us, and heal the wounds left by betrayal. Bring them to unity, and where they are apart, lead them to a home together in a way that honors You. Let their marriage reflect Your faithfulness. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
