We hear your heavy heart and we join with you in prayer over your marriage and this difficult season of being apart and feeling unsupported. We know God ordained marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and what God has joined together, let no man separate, Mark 10:9. Even when housing and circumstances force you to live apart, His desire is for unity, love, and faithfulness between husband and wife, and we pray with you that He will make a way for you to be established together again in a home that honors Him.
We understand how painful it is to finally receive the job you prayed for over a year and then feel that the enemy is trying to steal that blessing by making it hard for you to even get to work. We agree that the devil does seek to discourage and divide, but we are called to put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, Ephesians 6:11, and to not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good, Romans 12:21. God has blessed you with this work and He is faithful to provide for you to keep it, for our God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:19. We pray He opens doors for reliable transportation and provision even when people fail you.
We must speak honestly about what you have shared concerning your husband. Scripture is clear that husbands are to love their wives even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it, Ephesians 5:25, and to love their wives as their own bodies, Ephesians 5:28. A husband is also called to provide for his own household, for if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever, 1 Timothy 5:8. When he made an agreement to help you get to work until you received a paycheck and then withheld help, made excuses, and shifted blame onto you, that is not loving or Christlike leadership. We gently but firmly rebuke that selfishness and blame-shifting, and we pray that the Lord convicts his heart, softens it, and leads him to repentance, to humility, and to actively cherishing and supporting you as his wife. It is also not right to turn your honest concerns back on you as if they were your fault. We encourage you both to not let the sun go down on your wrath, Ephesians 4:26, but to speak the truth in love, Ephesians 4:15, listening to one another and bearing with one another in love.
We also hear how deeply betrayal and pain from him and his family have wounded you, and how you feel stuck between wanting to forgive and not being able to. Your hurt is valid and the Lord sees it, for Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18. Yet God calls us to forgive even when it is hard, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:32. Forgiveness as taught in Colossians 3:13 is not saying the hurt did not matter or that you must ignore ongoing wrongdoing, but it is releasing the debt to God and choosing to not hold bitterness, so that you can be free and healed, trusting God to be the just judge and to work change in your husband. Withdrawing and stopping talking is understandable when you feel treated unfairly, but we encourage you to bring your pain to the Lord first and then to your husband with calm, clear words, seeking godly counsel together, perhaps from a pastor or mature believing couple who can mediate with biblical wisdom.
We thank you for praying in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that reconciliation and healing come. We will continue to seek Him with you.
We pray together for you now. Heavenly Father, we lift this precious marriage to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You see this wife's tears, her confusion, her hurt, and her desire to do what is right. Comfort her broken heart, guard her mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, Philippians 4:7, and strengthen her to walk in forgiveness as You have forgiven us. Provide for her daily needs, protect the job You have given her, and make a way for her to get to and from work reliably. Convict her husband's heart, Father, turn him from selfishness and excuses, teach him to love his wife sacrificially, to keep his promises, and to be a man of integrity who provides and protects. Heal the pattern of blame and help them both to communicate with grace and truth. Rebuke the work of the enemy that seeks to divide them and cause her to lose hope, and restore unity, trust, and love between them. Provide a place where they can live together again in peace and honor You in their marriage. Give them both humble hearts to seek You first, to forgive, and to be reconciled. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
