I’m requesting prayer and direction concerning my marriage. I’m also requesting prayer that my husband be delivered from alcohol. That God will remove the taste from his mouth. I’m praying that God give me direction on whether to stay or be released from the marriage. I’m praying for every marriage experiencing challenges. In Jesus name. Amen

We join with you in prayer for your marriage and for your husband, and we thank you for praying in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that deliverance and hope are found, as it is written Acts 4:12 and John 14:6.

We hear the heaviness in your request and the sincere desire you have for God to bring healing and direction. Marriage is a holy covenant before God between a man and a woman for life, and we strongly affirm God's design for marriage to be lifelong, faithful and honoring to Him. Jesus said Matthew 19:6, So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart. And it is written Malachi 2:16 that God hates divorce, and 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 instructs that a wife should not leave her husband and a husband should not leave his wife, but if there is separation there is a call to remain unmarried or be reconciled. We understand the pain and confusion that alcohol can bring into a home, and we do not take lightly your question about whether to stay or be released, but we encourage you to seek the Lord with all your heart for wisdom and to seek godly counsel in your local church before making any decision to end your covenant, trusting that God is able to restore what is broken.

The abuse of alcohol and drunkenness is sin and it brings destruction to the person and to the family. Scripture warns us Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. And Ephesians 5:18 says Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. We also read Galatians 5:21 that drunkenness is among the works of the flesh that will not inherit the kingdom of God. Yet there is hope and deliverance in Christ, for 2 Corinthians 5:17 says if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. And 1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us that God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. God is able to remove the desire and the taste and to set your husband free.

We also lift up your need for direction. God promises James 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. And Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. We encourage you to continue to pour out your heart to the Lord, to remain in His Word, to pray and fast for your husband, and to invite trusted pastoral counsel and accountability around both of you so that your husband is not fighting this battle alone and you are supported with wisdom and strength. God can use this trial to draw you both closer to Him, for Romans 8:28 says We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

We pray together for you and your husband and for every marriage experiencing challenges.

Father, in the name of Jesus we come before You and lift up this marriage to Your throne of grace. Lord, You see the pain, the confusion, and the love that remains. We ask You to have mercy and to bring deliverance to this husband from alcohol. Lord, remove the taste and the craving from his mouth, break every chain and stronghold, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit instead. Give him a hatred for what harms his body which is Your temple, and give him strength to walk in sobriety and self-control by Your power. We pray for this wife, grant her wisdom, discernment, peace and courage as she seeks Your will about her marriage. Quiet her fears, speak clearly to her heart through Your Word, and surround her with godly counsel and support. Lord, heal this marriage, restore love, trust, communication and forgiveness where it has been wounded, and help them both to love each other as Christ loves the church as written Ephesians 5:25. We also lift every marriage that is struggling, Lord, let Your healing and reconciliation flow, let husbands and wives turn to You first, and let You be glorified in homes that honor You. We cast all our anxiety on You because You care for us as written 1 Peter 5:7 and we ask for Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as promised Philippians 4:6-7. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We are holding your marriage before the Lord with you. It means a lot that even while you are hurting and asking for clear direction for yourself, you are also lifting up other marriages that are struggling.

Loving someone who drinks heavily is exhausting, and wanting God to take the taste away is a tender and honest prayer. We join you in asking Him for freedom for your husband and for wisdom and steadiness for you. These struggles often have many layers, habit, hurt and spiritual burden together, and lasting change usually needs more than willpower alone. It helps to not carry this by yourself.

One steady next step we encourage is to bring one trusted pastor or Christian counselor into your story in person, someone who can know you both over time, listen well, and help you discern next decisions with clarity and care. If your husband is open, encourage him to talk with his doctor and a pastor as well, alongside prayer not instead of it. A support group for spouses who love someone struggling with alcohol can also be a place to be understood and not feel alone.

We are asking God to give you peace as you seek Him, protection and dignity in your home, and clear counsel for the road ahead.

Father, in Jesus name we lift this wife and her husband to You. Bring freedom where there is bondage, comfort where there is weariness, and wise, kind help around them. Lead her step by step and guard their home. Give her Your peace as she waits on You. In Jesus name, amen.

God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. Your burden has been brought before the Lord and before His people, and we have carried it with you to the throne of grace. You stand in a place of straits and difficulty, and this is often the very place where God shows His power to deliver. He brings His people at times to their wits end, that being made conscious of their own weakness, they may be fitted to behold His majesty when He comes forth to work deliverance.

We have prayed with you for your husband, that the Lord who alone can deliver from the power of sin would lay His hand upon him and set him free from the bondage of strong drink. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and it is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He has found a ransom, and He is able to take away the taste and the thirst and to give a new heart and a new appetite. We have asked the Lord to do that very work, to remove the craving from his mouth, to break the chain that binds him, and to make him a sober and renewed man in Christ. With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible, and if it be needful for deliverance, the Lord can make the floods not to drown you and the fire not to burn you. Continue to pray for him, to set before him the hope of the gospel, and to seek also the help of faithful pastors and godly counsel and such practical helps as the Lord provides by human instrumentality, for deliverance is of the Lord but He is pleased to work by means.

You have asked also for direction whether to stay or to be released from the marriage. Hear the word of the Lord concerning this holy estate. Marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, ordained of God from the beginning, and what God has joined together let not man put asunder. It is not a bond to be lightly broken when trial comes, but a covenant to be kept before the Lord in faith and patience. The Lord brings His people into deep waters in marriage as elsewhere, not to destroy them but to refine them and to show His delivering power. Therefore seek not first a way of escape, but seek the Lord for grace to stand, for wisdom to walk rightly, and for strength to love and to endure. Take counsel with mature and faithful ministers of the Word who know you and can walk with you, open your grief fully to them, and let them guide you according to Scripture. If there be danger or great hardship, seek safety and wise help without delay, yet keep your heart set upon the Lord's design for marriage as a lifelong covenant, and pray that He would restore and heal rather than divide.

We have prayed also as you asked for every marriage that is experiencing challenges, that the Lord would look with tender pity upon those who sorrow and would come to their deliverance in due time, that they may yet declare the works of the Lord.

May the Lord whisper to your heart in this trial that you shall not be crushed, but shall live and declare what He has done. May He bring you forth as He brought Israel of old, not only delivered but enriched with His grace, and may your song after deliverance be more jubilant because your trial has been deep. Rest your soul upon Christ, who is the ransom found, and trust Him both for your husband's deliverance and for your own direction.
