Marriage restoration

Disciple of Prayer
Anonymous prayer request. Please pray for my marriage. We drifted apart and husband had an affair. We have been working through it but ex-affair partner will not leave us alone. Please pray for God to remove her, ###, from our lives, so we can continue to heal. Please pray for God to heal our hearts, forgive, be at peace and us to have a good nights sleep and get rest as we head into the weekend.

We are truly sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing in your marriage, but we are encouraged that you are working towards restoration. God hates divorce and longs for reconciliation. "For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel" Malachi 2:16 WEB.

Firstly, we need to address the elephant in the room. Neither you or your husband will be able to have a good night sleep or a peaceful life until your husband confesses his sin to God, repents from his sin, and turns away from his sin. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 WEB.

Your husband must understand the severity of what he has done. "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous." Hebrews 13:4 WEB.

His sin has caused a lot of pain. Stating that you both have been working through it does not explicitly state that he has actually confessed his sin, repented, and turned away from his sin to God. If he has not done this step then please understand he is not restored to God and is still lost. Confessing to his spouse or a counselor is not confessing and repenting to God.

We are not going to mince words or dance around the subject. Your husband has committed adultery. He had an affair. If your husband is a Christian then his behavior is especially grievous as he has sinned against his own body. "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." 1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB.

Your husband is to put all other relationships with any other woman aside but you. "...and the two will become one flesh. So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." Mark 10:8-9 WEB.

Your husband is to love you as Christ loved the church, being the head of the home, and you are to respect him. If he is not acting as a godly husband then he is not fulfilling the Lord's will and you are not obligated to respect him until he returns to the Lord. "Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it;" Ephesians 5:22-25 WEB.

Regarding the other woman, we will indeed pray that God would remove her from your lives. But we also need to address that your husband must cut off all contact with her immediately in all circumstances to prove he has truly repented and turned away from his sin.

He must not contact her under any circumstance and fully terminate the relationship. If you are working through it then you must set this expectation immediately.

We must warn you that until he repents and turns away from his sin then you must flee this situation as you are not obligated to stay in a marriage with a man that is not your husband, a man that claims to be a Christian but is living in sin. Staying with a man that is not saved would be unequally yoking yourself with an unbeliever.

"Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever? What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.' Therefore 'Come out from among them, and be separate,' says the Lord. 'Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you. I will be to you a Father. You will be to me sons and daughters,' says the Lord Almighty." 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 WEB.

If he is not repentant and you stay then you are disobeying the Lord and you risk being led astray.

Trust that the Lord God will be with you and protect you in all circumstances. We ask you to be continually discerning of your husband's walk with the Lord. If he is non-repentant and continues to sin then you are not to be with him.

The prayer request mentioned nothing about Jesus Christ, Jesus, Christ, or any other name or title associated with the Son of God. We need to address this issue. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved.

"...BE IT KNOWN UNTO YOU ALL, AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL, THAT BY THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, WHOM YE CRUCIFIED, WHOM GOD RAISED FROM THE DEAD, EVEN BY HIM DOTH THIS MAN STAND HERE BEFORE YOU WHOLE. THIS IS THE STONE WHICH WAS SET AT NOUGHT OF YOU BUILDERS, WHICH IS BECOME THE HEAD OF THE CORNER. NEITHER IS THERE SALVATION IN ANY OTHER: FOR THERE IS NONE OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN, WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED." Acts 4:10-12 WEB.

If your husband is not saved then it is our prayer that he turns to the Lord Jesus Christ today and confesses his sins, repents from his sins, turns away from his sins, and is saved by Jesus Christ.

Let us pray together in the name of Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father,

We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this marriage that is in desperate need of Your healing touch. We pray for the husband, that he would truly confess his sins, repent from his sins, and turn away from his sins to You oh God. We pray he understands the severity of what he has done and turns from his wicked ways.

Father, we ask that You would remove the other woman from their lives, that she would no longer be a stumbling block to their restoration and healing. We pray for a complete termination of that unholy relationship, as well as healing and forgiveness for both husband and wife, along with peaceful nights of sleep and restful weekends.

Lord, we pray for their marriage to be restored. If the husband is not saved then we pray that he turns to You oh Lord in the name of Jesus Christ. We also pray for their hearts to be softened, for forgiveness to flow freely, and for peace to reign in their home. We also pray the husband takes up his God given role as the head of the household and the wife respects him as required.

We ask this in the powerful and mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Dear friend, we're here with you, praying for your marriage. We understand the pain you're in, and we're sorry that you're going through this. We've been thinking about you and your husband, and we want to encourage you with these words:

Firstly, we believe in the power of forgiveness. "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13) We pray that you and your husband would find the strength to forgive each other, as God forgave you.

We also believe in the power of love. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) We pray that this kind of love would fill your home.

We're also praying for the situation with the other woman. We ask that God would remove her influence from your lives, and that your husband would have the strength to completely cut off contact with her. We believe that God can bring good out of this situation, and that He can use it to bring you and your husband closer together.

We're here for you, and we'll continue to pray for you. Remember, God is always with you, and He loves you both deeply. Trust in Him, and trust in the power of His love to heal and restore.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
