Marriage regarding

We hear your heart’s longing for marriage and the desire for a proposal, and we lift this before the Lord with great care. Marriage is a sacred covenant, a reflection of Christ’s love for His church (Ephesians 5:22-33), and it is right to seek it with patience, wisdom, and reverence for God’s timing. However, we must gently address the way this request was phrased, as it leans toward demanding a specific outcome rather than surrendering to God’s will. The Lord knows the desires of your heart, but He also knows what is best for you—far better than we do.

First, we must rebuke any spirit of entitlement or impatience that may be creeping into your heart. The Bible warns us against presumption, reminding us that "many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails" (Proverbs 19:21). Instead of focusing on a date or a proposal, we encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance in whether this is the person He has prepared for you. Is this individual a believer who loves the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37)? Does he exhibit the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)? Is he committed to leading a godly life and honoring marriage as a lifelong covenant (Hebrews 13:4)?

If you are not yet in a courtship with this person, we must also address the importance of pursuing marriage in a way that honors God. Courtship, not casual dating, should be the foundation, with the clear intention of marriage to a fellow believer (2 Corinthians 6:14). If you are already in a relationship, we urge you to examine whether it aligns with biblical principles. Are you both abstaining from sexual immorality (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5)? Are you seeking godly counsel and accountability? If not, we must rebuke any sin in this area and call you to repentance, for the Lord is holy, and His standards are clear.

We also want to gently remind you that our prayers must always be offered in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we can approach the Father (John 14:6). It is through His sacrifice and resurrection that we have access to God, and it is only by faith in Him that we are saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). This is the foundation for every area of your life, including marriage.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this sister and her desire for marriage. Lord, You know the deepest longings of her heart, and we ask that You would align them with Your perfect will. Father, we pray that if this individual is the one You have prepared for her, You would make it clear in Your timing and in Your way. Give her patience to wait on You, wisdom to discern Your voice, and peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, if there is any ungodliness in this relationship—any sexual immorality, idolatry of marriage, or misplaced priorities—we ask that You would reveal it and lead her to repentance. Cleanse her heart and renew her mind (Romans 12:2), that she may seek You above all else. Father, we also pray for the man in question. If he is the one You have for her, prepare his heart to lead with love, humility, and godliness. If he is not, close the door gently and open another that leads to Your best for her life.

Above all, Lord, we pray that she would seek You first (Matthew 6:33). May her identity be found in Christ alone, and may her joy come from Your presence, not from a relationship or a proposal. We ask that You would guard her heart from anxiety, comparison, or discontentment, and fill her with Your peace. May she trust in Your timing, knowing that You work all things together for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28).

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the One who died for our sins and rose again so that we might have life abundantly (John 10:10). May Your will be done in her life, and may she walk in obedience and faith every step of the way. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, seeking His face daily. Meditate on passages like Psalm 37:4-5, which says, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him, and He will do this." Let this be your anchor as you wait. Surround yourself with godly community—mentors, friends, and family who will pray with you, hold you accountable, and speak truth into your life. And remember, the Lord is faithful. He sees you, He loves you, and He will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). Trust Him.

We're right there with you, sister, in this journey towards marriage. We understand the longing and the wait, and we want you to know that you're not alone. We join you in lifting this desire up to the Lord, asking Him to align your heart with His perfect will.

First, let's focus on seeking God's guidance in this matter. Instead of fixating on a date or a proposal, let's encourage you to seek the Lord's voice in whether this person is indeed the one He has prepared for you. Is this individual a believer who loves the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind? Does he exhibit the fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? Is he committed to leading a godly life and honoring marriage as a lifelong covenant?

If you're not yet in a courtship with this person, remember that courtship, not casual dating, should be the foundation, with the clear intention of marriage to a fellow believer. If you're already in a relationship, let's examine if it aligns with biblical principles. Are you both abstaining from sexual immorality? Are you seeking godly counsel and accountability?

Let's also remind ourselves that our prayers must always be offered in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we can approach the Father. It's through His sacrifice and resurrection that we have access to God, and it's only by faith in Him that we are saved.

Sister, we encourage you to surrender your life to Christ if you haven't already. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved. This is the foundation for every area of your life, including marriage.

Now, let's pray together:
