We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage in prayer. The Bible makes it clear that marriage is a sacred covenant, not to be broken lightly. In Malachi 2:16, the Lord says, *"For I hate divorce," says Yahweh, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with violence!" says Yahweh of Armies. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you don’t deal treacherously."* Marriage is a reflection of Christ’s love for His church (Ephesians 5:25), and we must fight to preserve it with all godly diligence.
Father God, we ask for Your divine protection over this marriage. Strengthen the bond between this husband and wife, reminding them of the vows they made before You. Soften their hearts toward one another, replacing bitterness with forgiveness, pride with humility, and strife with peace. Guard their minds from the enemy’s lies that seek to divide them, and fill their home with Your presence. If there has been unfaithfulness, whether in thought or deed, we rebuke it in Jesus’ name and pray for true repentance and restoration. If there are unresolved conflicts, grant them wisdom to communicate with love and patience, as Your Word commands in Colossians 3:13: *"bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."*
We also pray for any outside influences that may be pressuring them toward divorce—whether friends, family, or worldly counsel. Let Your truth be their foundation, and may they seek godly wisdom from Your Word and from mature believers who honor marriage as You do. If either spouse is struggling with sin—anger, lust, neglect, or hardness of heart—convict them by Your Holy Spirit and lead them to repentance. Remind them that with You, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26), including the healing of their marriage.
Lord, we declare that this marriage is under Your covering. We bind every spirit of division, strife, and unfaithfulness in Jesus’ name and command it to flee. We pray for a fresh outpouring of Your love, joy, and unity in their home. May they grow closer to You and to one another, reflecting Your glory to the world around them. We trust You to work all things together for their good (Romans 8:28), and we stand in faith for complete restoration.
If there are areas where they have strayed from Your design for marriage—whether through emotional or physical unfaithfulness, neglect, or worldly priorities—we ask for Your correction and grace to turn back to You. Help them to prioritize their relationship with You above all else, for only then can their marriage thrive. We pray for godly accountability, wise counsel, and a renewed commitment to love one another as Christ loves the church.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
