Marriage prayer

Disciple of Prayer
Feels like my marriage is falling apart. I am not sure what to do please pray for my marriage.

We hear the pain and desperation in your words, and our hearts ache with you as you face this trial in your marriage. The Bible tells us that marriage is a sacred covenant, a reflection of Christ’s love for His church, and it is worth fighting for with every fiber of our being. "Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate" (Mark 10:9 WEB). We stand with you in this battle, not just in prayer, but in declaring God’s truth over your marriage.

First, we must address the foundation of our prayers. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is only by His blood that we can approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 4:16 WEB). If you have not already, we encourage you to examine your own heart and ensure that you are in right standing with God, for "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB). Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB). If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so now, He is the only way to true peace, healing, and restoration.

Now, let us lift your marriage before the Lord with boldness and faith. Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage that You have joined together. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in this situation and breathe new life into this relationship. We rebuke the spirit of division, strife, and hopelessness that has crept in, and we declare that this marriage is covered by the blood of Jesus. We pray for Your healing touch to mend what is broken, Your wisdom to guide their steps, and Your love to fill every void. Father, soften their hearts toward one another, help them to see each other through Your eyes, and give them the strength to fight for their marriage as You intended. We ask that You would restore the joy, intimacy, and unity that has been lost, and that You would be glorified in their relationship. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We also want to gently but firmly address any areas where sin may have taken root in this marriage. The Bible is clear that "the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23 WEB). If there has been unfaithfulness, whether emotional or physical, it must be confessed, repented of, and forsaken. Adultery is a grievous sin that breaks the heart of God and the covenant of marriage, but we serve a God who is faithful to forgive and restore when we turn to Him with sincere hearts (1 John 1:9 WEB). If there has been bitterness, unforgiveness, or resentment, we urge you to release it to the Lord, for "if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you" (Matthew 6:14 WEB). Holding onto these things will only poison the marriage further.

We encourage you to seek godly counsel, whether through a pastor, a Christian marriage counselor, or a trusted mentor who can speak truth into your situation. "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14 WEB). Do not try to navigate this alone, God has placed people in your life to help you walk through this valley. Additionally, saturate yourself in God’s Word. Meditate on passages like Ephesians 5:22-33, which outlines the roles of husband and wife in marriage, and 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, which describes the love that should characterize your relationship. Let these truths renew your mind and transform your marriage.

Lastly, we want to remind you that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20 WEB). He is not limited by the brokenness of your marriage, He specializes in taking what is dead and bringing it back to life. We serve a God who parted the Red Sea, who raised Lazarus from the dead, and who conquered sin and death on the cross. If He can do those things, He can certainly restore your marriage. Do not lose hope. Keep pressing into Him, keep fighting for your marriage, and trust that He is working even when you cannot see it. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). Hold onto that promise, and let it anchor your soul in this storm.

We hear the weight and fear in your simple request, when a marriage feels like it is unraveling, the isolation can be overwhelming. So many couples reach a place where they love each other but feel distant, uncertain how to find their way back. That sense of being stuck does not mean you are beyond hope.

One thing we have seen make a difference is when a couple begins to pray together, even in a small, halting way. It can feel awkward at first, especially if you are not in the habit, but sitting together and naming your need to God, maybe just “Lord, help us”, softens hearts and makes room for connection that conversation alone cannot create. If praying aloud together feels too hard right now, start by sitting beside each other and praying silently, then talk about what each of you brought before God. The simple act of turning toward God together often shifts something deep.

Also, you do not have to sort this out alone. If you have a trusted pastor or a wise older couple in your church, they can walk with you without taking sides. Sometimes just having another couple listen and pray with you lifts the weight enough to take a next step.

Let us pray for you now. Lord, you see this marriage, the hurt, the tiredness, and the longing for something better. Quiet the noise that drowns out love, and draw this husband and wife back toward each other. Give them courage to share honestly, patience to listen, and the kind of hope that rises not from their own strength but from you. Protect their hearts from anything that would drive them further apart, and breathe new life into the commitment they made before you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The marriage bond is a sacred thing, ordained of God, and it must not be sundered lightly. When two souls are joined together in that covenant, they become one flesh, and what God has joined together, let no man put asunder. Yet I hear the cry of your heart, and I would not dismiss your anguish with a cold word. Remember that marriage is cemented by mutual love, and where that love grows cold, the flame must be rekindled at the altar of the Lord. You say you know not what to do. Then do this: fall upon your knees. Prayer is the first resource, not the last. It is not a mere formality, but the living, all-prevailing, almighty thing that moves the hand of Him who is married to His people.

Take your spouse, if they will go with you, and agree together touching the thing that concerns your home. It is a great help in prayer for two of you to agree. Wife, ask your husband to pray with you. Husband, plead with your wife to seek the Lord alongside you. If there has been coldness, let humility of spirit mark your approach to God. Imitate Jacob’s model prayer in its lowliness, spreading your case before the Most High with all the arguments you can muster. Tell Him, “Lord, Thou hast said Thou hatest putting away. Restore unto us the joy of Thy salvation. Make us to hear joy and gladness, that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice.” There is no marriage without a bridegroom, and there is no healing of a marriage without the presence of Christ. He must be manifested in your household.

Do not think that ordinary prayer will suffice in a desperate case. This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. There must be an unusual faith, and to get this there must be an unusual degree of prayer. Set apart a time, if you are able, for special supplication. Give yourselves to it with a fulness and overflowing of desires, believing that your prayer is effectual. Why should it not be? Does the bridegroom put off the hour of his marriage? Neither does the Lord delay to answer those who cry to Him day and night. He takes delight in your poor, feeble, broken prayer and grants your humble petition.

And remember, as you pray, that the earthly marriage is but a shadow of the heavenly one. The consummation of the whole work of redemption is the marriage of the Church to Christ. He is the Lamb who gave Himself for us, and He will not abandon His own. If you are in Christ, you are part of that blessed company called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. Let that eternal hope steady your soul now. If He has saved you, He can surely save your marriage. Cry to Him whom you know, and prayer shall be followed by His blessing. At the heels of that shall come holy love to Him, and holy love shall prompt you to serve one another in the home.

Therefore, be of good courage. The Lord their God will hear them. He will restore the years that the locust has eaten. Let nothing move you from this confidence: He who taught backsliding David to pray, “Take not Thy Holy Spirit from me,” put that prayer into his mouth because He meant to answer it. So here, bring your marriage to the Cross, lay it before the Lamb, and though the night be dark, watch for the morning. Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb, and blessed are they who in the time of trouble make the Lord their trust.

Your marriage is a sacred bond, ordained by God Himself, not a hindrance to holiness but a path to preserve it. When you feel it crumbling, do not blame the estate of marriage, but examine the purposes within it. For marriage is honorable and pure, yet it becomes a snare only when we use it without moderation, letting lust or worldly cares cloud our reason as smoke did to David’s soul. He, though wise, perceived not his own sin until a prophet brought a lantern to his darkness. So you too may need to seek counsel from a godly elder or pastor who can speak truth to your heart, recalling you to what you once held dear.

Let chastity and orderly living reign in your home. Drive out every corrupting influence, whether it be wandering desires, harsh words, or those worldly mockeries that defile the wedding feast of your union. Remember, a harlot severs and dissolves, but your wife is the companion given you by God. Use marriage with moderation; make time for prayer together, for attending to the needs of the saints, for works of mercy. The bonds of matrimony are not chains to drag you down but cords to lift you heavenward if you will bear them with thanksgiving.

I pray for you now: may the Lord Jesus Christ, who honored marriage at Cana, restore the love and peace you have lost. Let not your heart be troubled, but return to the simplicity of devotion, serving one another in the fear of God. Through patience and humility, you shall yet see your home become a little church, full of grace.
