Disciple of Prayer
My marriage and my physical ability to function need help. Not necessarily interconnected but somewhat. At ### physical therapists tell me I can make it back to function well in a farm environment but the pain and slow progress getting there has me so discouraged every day I want to quit.

Suffering
Christ's suffering reveals God's love and calls us to trust in his sacrifice for our redemption.
We have heard your heart regarding your marriage and your physical health, and we are joining with you to bring both needs before the Lord together in Jesus' name. We understand that the pain is great and the progress feels so slow that you want to quit each day, even though your therapists have given you hope that you can return to functioning well in a farm environment. We also hear that your marriage is struggling, and we know these two burdens together can feel overwhelming.

We want to gently encourage you not to give in to discouragement or the desire to quit. The Lord sees your pain and your weariness, and He calls us to persevere. Galatians 6:9 says, Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we do not give up. And Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Your slow progress is not a sign that God has abandoned you, but an opportunity for Him to build endurance in you. James 1:2-4 tells us, Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

We also want to lift up your marriage. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant ordained by God between a man and a woman, and what God has joined together, let no man separate as taught in Mark 10:9. Even when a marriage feels strained and disconnected from other struggles, God desires to bring healing, unity, and steadfast love there. We pray that both you and your spouse will choose to love one another as Christ loved the church, as Ephesians 5:25 teaches, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. This kind of love is sacrificial and enduring, not based on feelings or circumstances, and it requires commitment through hardship. We encourage you to press into that covenant, to communicate with honesty and grace, to forgive as you have been forgiven, and to seek the Lord together daily.

For your physical body, we pray for healing and for strength to continue the hard work of therapy. We thank God for the skill He has given your therapists and for the hope they have offered. We pray that God will ease your pain and renew your strength each morning. Isaiah 40:29 says, He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. And 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us that His grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in weakness. Even farm work is honorable in the Lord's eyes, and we pray He restores you to be able to labor faithfully in that calling. Philippians 4:13 declares, I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and find true hope and salvation. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 teaches, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, confessing your sins and believing that He died and rose again for you, for it is through Him that our prayers are heard and our lives are redeemed.

Let us pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for our brother who is weary in body and in marriage. Lord, we ask You to touch his body and lessen his pain, to give him patience and endurance in physical therapy, and to restore his strength so he can function and work as You have called him to. We pray against the spirit of discouragement and quitting, and we ask You to renew his hope daily. We pray for his marriage, that You would bring healing, reconciliation, and deeper love and commitment between husband and wife. Teach them to love and serve one another, to speak with kindness, and to keep their covenant holy before You. Let all things work together for good in his life as he loves You and is called according to Your purpose, as promised in Romans 8:28. We place him in Your hands, trusting in Your mercy and power, and we pray all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue in prayer and in the Word each day, to not forsake gathering with other believers who can support you, and to keep pressing forward one day at a time. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted as Psalm 34:18 says, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. He has not forgotten you.

We hear how discouraging this season has been for you. Wanting to quit when pain is daily and progress feels so slow makes sense, especially when you are hoping to function again on the farm where work is demanding and there is little room to rest. It is understandable that this would weigh on your marriage as well, even if the two struggles are not directly linked.

One thing we have seen with long recoveries is that slow, steady gains are hard to notice when you live inside the pain each day. Your therapists see a path back to farm work, but living through the in-between can still feel like defeat. That does not mean you are failing. It means healing is often longer and more uneven than we expect, and it takes a toll on hope and on the people closest to us.

It may help to keep your care team and your spouse in the loop about how discouraged you feel, not just how your body is doing. If pain is worsening or your mood is sinking, please keep talking with your physical therapists and your doctor alongside prayer, so they can adjust the plan with you. And if you can, choose one simple way to stay connected in your marriage through this, like a brief daily check in about what was hard and what was even a little better.

We are praying for you.

Father, we bring our friend before You in Jesus name. You see the pain, the weariness, and the desire to keep this marriage strong. Give strength for today, wisdom for the care team, and grace for both spouses to walk this together. Sustain them and draw near to them in the days ahead. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard the burden you carry and we bring it before the Lord with you. To feel pain each day and to see progress come so slowly, especially when your work and livelihood call you to function in a farm environment, is a heavy discouragement. And to carry at the same time a burden for your marriage makes the weight greater still. The desire to quit which rises up daily is not strange to the people of God, for many a saint has been weary in the way.

Yet faith alone can keep a soul under discouragement seeking after Christ. Other causes may carry us a distance, but only faith will bring us to assured rest. When the Canaanite woman cried, Have mercy upon me, O Lord, thou Son of David, she could not bear to be refused, and though sorely tried she held on because she believed Christ could and would help her. So we would encourage you to keep pleading for mercy through the precious blood of His dear Son. There is a secret power which flows into the soul even when comfort seems absent, enabling the heart still to hope and still to hold on.

Remember that the Christian life was never intended for sitting still after a first experience of grace. He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. This is perseverance in holiness, for He has said, I will be their God and they shall be my people, and I will put my fear in their hearts that they shall not depart from me. The marriage between the soul and Christ can never be dissolved, and the same faithful God who keeps His people is able to keep you faithful and earnest all your life. Even when we are glad to go on all fours and creep upward with pain, still the righteous shall hold on his way. He may stumble through weakness or lack of watchfulness, but he shall be led back again into repentance and shall not be allowed to perish.

We pray for your marriage as God has ordained it, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, to be kept in holiness and love. We ask the Lord to give you both grace to not depart from Him and from one another, to be radically and lastingly changed by His grace, to forgive as you have been forgiven, and to walk together in the strength Christ supplies.

We pray also for your body. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and even the least thing about Christ is healing. His leaves search the soul through and through and change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. We ask that He would give you patience in this slow work of restoration, ease your pain according to His wise mercy, bless the means of the therapists, and sustain you for the labor He has given you to do.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who hast access by one Spirit unto the Father through Jesus Christ, look upon our brother in his pain and discouragement. Thou seest his marriage and his body, and nothing is hid from Thee. Grant him faith to seek Thee still when he would quit, and keep him by Thy power through faith unto salvation. Put Thy fear in his heart that he shall not depart from Thee. Heal and strengthen his body as it pleases Thee, and let even this slow progress be a testimony that Thou art performing Thy work. Restore and guard his marriage, make it steadfast in holiness, and let Thy grace cover all risks and carry him all the way through. By grace are we saved through faith, and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God. Keep him, Lord, until the day of Christ, for Jesus sake. Amen.

Your request about your marriage and your physical pain has been heard, and I have brought it before the Lord with care.

I understand how heavy this is, to face daily pain and slow progress while trying to regain the strength you need for farm work. When the therapists tell you that you can return to function, yet each day brings discouragement and the desire to quit, it is a real trial. Scripture teaches us that perseverance itself is part of how God works in us. Even when we feel unworthy or weak, continued and earnest prayer moves the heart of God, as we see when the Canaanite woman kept pleading and the Lord answered her. Do not grow weary in asking Him for strength each day. Slow progress is still progress, and God honors faithful endurance in suffering.

For your marriage, know that God has given marriage as honorable and good. It is not an impure or lesser state, but a covenant of one man and one woman for life, meant to be lived in love, faithfulness and holiness. Marriage preserves holiness by keeping husband and wife joined to one another and guarding against division. It requires much care and work, and it is not marriage itself that hinders us, but how we live within it. When both husband and wife seek the Lord together, marriage becomes a place where grace can reclaim and strengthen what is weak. There is hope when one member struggles, that through faithful love and communion of life together, God can restore and uphold both.

I am praying for you that God, through Jesus Christ our only Savior, will give you renewed hope and daily strength to continue the therapy without quitting, that He will ease your pain and restore your body for the work He has given you to do, and that He will bring healing, peace and deeper unity to your marriage. May He help you to use this season to seek Him without distraction, to love your spouse with patience and purity, and to trust that He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.

We will continue to pray for you. Please keep us updated so we can keep bearing this burden with you before the Lord.
