We have heard your request and we are lifting you up together before the Lord, asking for His mercy and deliverance in this struggle with maladaptive daydreaming. We know how consuming and isolating this can feel, when the mind drifts into elaborate fantasies that take time and energy away from the life God has given you to live for Him. He sees your heart and your desire to be free, and He cares deeply about the thoughts and meditations of your heart.
The Word of God teaches us that our thought life matters to Him and that we are called to steward our minds for His glory. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us we are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Romans 12:2 says Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. And Philippians 4:8 instructs us Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things. Maladaptive daydreaming often pulls us away from what is true and present, and can become a form of escapism or even idolatry of imagination that keeps us from being sober and watchful as God calls us to be. 1 Peter 5:8 says Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. God wants your mind to be at peace, clear, and set on Him. Colossians 3:2 says Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. Psalm 19:14 is our prayer for you, Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer. If any of these daydreams involve sexual fantasies, lust, or other immorality outside of God's design for marriage between a man and a woman, we gently rebuke that in love, for God calls us to purity and to take those thoughts captive as well, and He offers forgiveness and cleansing when we turn to Him.
We encourage you to actively renew your mind each day with Scripture, prayer, and worship, and to replace the habit with what honors God. When you feel the urge to drift into daydreaming, turn immediately to prayer or to the Word, memorize verses that you can recite, and fill your time with purposeful service to others and fellowship with other believers. It can help to identify triggers such as certain music, media, isolation, or boredom and to limit them, and to seek accountability from a trusted mature Christian who can pray with you and check in on you. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as 2 Timothy 1:7 says, and He will give you strength to walk in that self-control as you abide in Him.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and find true freedom and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus, confessing your sins and believing that He died and rose again for you, for He alone can renew your heart and mind and set you free.
We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You know the depth of this struggle with maladaptive daydreaming and how it has taken captive their thoughts and time. We ask for Your forgiveness where imagination has replaced trust in You, and we ask for Your deliverance and healing. Renew their mind by Your Holy Spirit, wash their thoughts with Your Word, and help them to bring every thought into obedience to Christ. Give them a sober, peaceful, and self-controlled mind, and teach them to set their mind on things above. Fill the empty places with Your presence, Your joy, and Your purpose, and help them to walk in the abundant life You have planned for them. Lead them to godly community and accountability, and let the meditation of their heart be pleasing to You each day. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer, amen.
