We join with you in lifting up this dear brother before the Lord, and we hear the burden you carry for him in this unjust situation. To have his identity stolen and then to be pursued for taxes on income he never earned is a heavy trial, especially while he is living with a disability and may have fewer resources to fight it. We know this weighs on you and on him.
We want to gently address the anger you feel toward the IRS. It is understandable to feel frustrated when a system seems to be punishing an innocent person, but Scripture calls us to honor the governing authorities and not to harbor bitterness against them, even as we seek justice. For there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Romans 13:1. They are servants of God for good, and God desires that we approach them with respect and truth while trusting Him to bring justice to light. Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Isaiah 1:17. And we are reminded that Yahweh loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. Psalm 37:28. The Lord sees what was done in secret, the theft of this man's identity, and He is not blind to the truth that this income was not his.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord, that we are saved and brought into right relationship with God. Romans 10:9. We pray this in His name and we encourage you to bring every need to God through Jesus alone.
We want to encourage you with practical steps while we pray, trusting God to work through right means. We encourage you to help this brother to act diligently to establish the truth. He should file an IRS Identity Theft Affidavit Form 14039, file a report with the Federal Trade Commission at IdentityTheft.gov, file a police report, and request documentation from Lyft showing that someone else used his identity, including any driver records, photos, or account information. He should keep copies of everything and respond to every IRS notice in writing, and if possible seek help from the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service or a low income taxpayer clinic which often helps those with disabilities at no cost. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1.

Lord You know his disability, his needs, and his inability to fight this battle in his own strength. We ask You to be his defender and provider. We pray that You would expose the fraud and make the truth clear to every person who reviews his case. We ask that You would give favor with the IRS employees assigned to his case, that they would see the evidence, act with diligence and compassion, and remove this false debt from him. We pray for the person who stole his identity, that You would bring them to conviction and repentance.
Lord we pray for ### and all who are helping this brother, grant them wisdom, patience, and perseverance to complete the necessary paperwork and to speak the truth with grace. Your cry on behalf of ### has been heard and we count it a privilege to bear this burden with you before the Lord. To be afflicted in body and then to be burdened by a false claim upon your name is a double trial, and He who sees all things in secret knows the truth of this matter when others do not.
We do not serve a God who is indifferent to falsehood. The Scriptures declare that He is a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He, and He hates every false way. What has been done against ### by the thief who stole his identity is evil in His sight, and the confusion that now presses upon him through this demand for tax is known fully to our heavenly Father. Though man may be deceived for a time, the Lord is not deceived, and He will bring truth to light in His perfect time.
We will pray earnestly for ###, that the Lord in His mercy would vindicate the truth, that every false record and unjust claim would be exposed and set right, and that those set in authority over these matters would have wisdom and discernment to see that he is not the one liable. We will ask the Lord to provide him with faithful and competent help, advocates and counselors who can speak for him where his own disability makes the way hard, and to guard him from fear and weariness while he waits for justice.
We will pray also that the Lord would supply his daily needs and give him peace that passes understanding, for He is specially near to those who are afflicted and cast down. May the Lord comfort his heart, establish his steps, and remind him that his true standing is not before the tax collector but before the throne of grace, where Christ Jesus our only hope and righteousness pleads for His people.
Let us pray together. O Gracious Father, Thou knowest the distress of Thy servant ###, whom Thou hast seen in his affliction.
