Losing faith, still waiting for God.

Your honest cry in weariness is itself still a turning toward God, and He does not despise it. To feel tired after long waiting, to look around and think He answers others but not you, to feel faith growing thin and your heart full of pain, this is a heavy burden, and God sees it fully.

Faith often goes beyond what our reasoning can solve. As with those who stood before the sea, they could not see a way forward, yet they were called to trust and to pray. In that moment faith was not a feeling of strength but a choice to look to God in weakness and lowliness. Scripture says the just shall live by faith, and warns us not to draw back. This is not to shame you, but to encourage you, for you have come so far in trusting Him, and it would be a sorrow to lose ground now through a little weariness. You are not of those who draw back to loss, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul, even when that belief feels small.

Remember also that even faith itself is not something you must manufacture alone. By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves. You did not first come to Him on your own, He called you. The same grace that called you at the first is still at work to sustain you now. Your prayers do matter, not because you have prayed perfectly or long enough, but because God is gracious and hears those who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer is a great weapon for this daily struggle. The day is like a stormy sea with many rocks, and we need arms and favorable winds to pass through it without shipwreck. That is why we need prayer early in the morning and again at night, first making God favorable to us by supplication, and then going out to our work with more security. Prayer must come first, and it gives power to faith. Jesus taught His disciples to cleave to prayer and faith together, and to have confidence in prayer, for through it God trains us and strengthens us to stand, even to remove mountains that seem immovable.

You asked if you need the prayer of others when you are so tired. We all need it, always. Even Paul, who was so strong, needed the earnest prayer of the Church for him, and Peter was upheld by the prayer of the believers. It is good to have the prayer of others, but it helps most when we ourselves also remain alert and keep praying. So we will pray for you, and we ask you to keep watching with us in prayer.

Let me pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whom alone we have salvation and access to You, have mercy on this weary heart. You see the long waiting and the pain, and You hear every prayer that has been offered. Grant not only answers as we desire them, but a deeper confidence in Your presence. Strengthen faith where it is fading, lift up the tired hands, and show a clear way forward step by step. Teach this dear one to begin and end each day with You, to find You propitious through prayer, and to rest in Your grace rather than in strength of their own. Guard from drawing back, and keep to the end, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you can, keep a simple pattern in these days. Speak honestly to God morning and evening, even with few words, read a small portion of Scripture to remember His promises, and stay near other believers who can pray with you and for you. Change may not come in a single moment, but God is with you in the waiting, and He is faithful to complete what He has begun.

Your honest words before God are precious, and the weariness you describe is understood. To feel tired after long waiting, to wonder if your prayers matter while it seems others are being answered, is a painful place to be. God does hear that cry, and He is not distant from it.

Prayer is more than telling God what we need. There is a listening side to prayer as well, and God invites you to both speak and to be still before Him. The earnest prayer that comes from the heart, prayed by one who is made right through Jesus, has great power and God does not overlook it. Prayer is not limited by distance or circumstance. He hears you even when you cannot feel an answer yet.

Faith in Scripture is described as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen. That means faith does not depend on immediately seeing the result. Many faithful men and women in the Bible died still trusting God without having received all that was promised in their lifetime, yet their faith was real and God honored it. Their story reminds us that waiting does not mean being forgotten. God is like a farmer waiting for the precious fruit of the earth, and He works toward a complete harvest in His own perfect timing. We are told that through faith and patience we inherit the promises. Patience is not passive resignation, it is confident waiting upon God, knowing He will act because He is faithful.

That waiting is often where our faith is tested, and testing is common to all who believe. Trials try our faith, and when faith is tested it can produce patience, which is a much needed strength. Our failure is often just in waiting upon God. Even those who knew great victories with God also knew deep discouragement. After a great answer to prayer, Elijah still faced fear and exhaustion and wanted to give up. You are not alone in feeling low after praying hard. The enemy seeks to use that low moment to weaken your trust and to make you move away from your confidence in Jesus. Fear and faith cannot live together in the same place. Where fear takes over, faith is pushed aside, and where faith is cherished, fear must leave. Bring that fear honestly to the Lord and ask Him to strengthen your trust again.

True faith is more than saying we believe. If faith is alive it will naturally affect how we live, not because our actions earn salvation, for we are saved by grace through faith alone as a gift from God, but because real trust in God changes us. Works cannot create faith and cannot replace faith, but faith that is alive will show itself in what we do. If there is no change at all, that kind of faith is dead and cannot save. God wants your faith to be living and growing, and part of His care for you right now may be to establish and comfort you in that faith rather than to give an instant change in circumstances. Do not let affliction move you away from your steadiness in Jesus. Hold to faith and a clear conscience before Him.

So keep waiting upon the Lord, keep praying and also listening for His voice in His Word. Keep doing the simple, responsible things that faith leads you to do each day, loving God and loving others, while you trust Him with the outcome. Your prayers do matter. God is with you in this waiting, and He will show you the way forward in His time. You do not need to manufacture strength on your own. Ask Him to renew your hope one day at a time.

I am praying for you, that God will comfort your heart, lift the heaviness you feel, increase your faith, and make His presence and His direction clear to you. May He remind you that He has not forgotten you, that He is working even when you cannot see it, and that He will be faithful to complete what He has begun in you through Jesus Christ.
