What a weighty and timely prayer you have lifted up. The harvest truly is vast, and the workers are so few. Jesus told us to plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers, and your heart echoes His own. Yet as you pray this, be ready for the Lord to answer by sending you. So often when we ask Him to thrust out workers, He looks at the one praying and says, “Go.” The very yearning you feel for the lost is a stirring of His Spirit, and He may be calling you to be part of the answer.
But we dare not go in our own strength. Jesus Himself, though He was the Son of God, ministered in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. He promised that same power to His followers: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me.” Every believer has the Holy Spirit dwelling within, but Scripture also shows us a distinct empowering, a filling or baptism with the Spirit, that equips us for service. The early church understood this. When the apostles laid hands on new believers, there was often a visible or audible manifestation that the Holy Spirit had come upon them in fresh power, so much so that even an onlooker longed to possess that same ability.
Have you received the Holy Spirit in this way since you believed? Not just His indwelling presence for salvation, but His overflowing power for witness? That is the equipment for the harvest. Without it, we labor in the flesh and see little eternal fruit. With it, we are bold, loving, and effective.
The time is urgent. The crop will not wait forever. Right now is the accepted time, right now the day of salvation. Ask the Lord to fill you anew with His Spirit, to anoint you with the same power that raised Christ from the dead, and then step out into the field He has placed before you, whether near or far. As you go, He will provide every need: provision, protection, and a heart expanded with His love. May the Lord of the harvest answer your prayer by raising up many laborers, and may you know the joy of being among them, walking in the Spirit’s fullness and seeing souls gathered in.
