Lord Keep Me Away from Sin

We hear your heartfelt cry, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting you up before our Heavenly Father. Your desire to be kept from sin and to walk in righteousness is a beautiful reflection of a heart that seeks after God. The Word of God assures us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." We take great comfort in knowing that God is faithful to provide a way out when temptation comes our way.
We also recognize the importance of your plea to be delivered from the evil one. Jesus taught us to pray, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" (Matthew 6:13). This is a prayer we should all take to heart daily, for the enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). But we are not left defenseless, we have the full armor of God to stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear one who has cried out to You for strength and deliverance. Lord, we ask that You would surround them with Your hedge of protection, keeping them far from sin and the snares of the enemy. Father, we pray that You would lead them not into temptation but deliver them from the evil one. Strengthen their spirit, mind, and body to resist the devil, so that he will flee from them (James 4:7).
Lord, we ask that You fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in Your ways and keep Your commandments. Help them to hide Your Word in their heart, that they might not sin against You (Psalm 119:11). Father, we pray for a renewed mind and a steadfast heart, that they may discern Your will and follow it with joy and obedience. Guard their eyes, their ears, and their thoughts, that they may be pure and holy before You.
We rebuke every scheme of the enemy designed to draw this one into sin. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand in agreement with them for victory in Christ Jesus. Lord, we ask that You would bring godly accountability and fellowship into their life, that they may be encouraged and sharpened by other believers (Proverbs 27:17).
Father, we thank You for the blood of Jesus that covers their sins and for the grace that empowers them to live a life pleasing to You. May they grow in the knowledge and love of You each day, and may their life be a testimony of Your faithfulness and power. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast in your faith, dear one. Surround yourself with believers who will uplift and encourage you in your walk with Christ. Spend time daily in God’s Word and in prayer, for these are the tools that will strengthen you against temptation. Remember, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).
If there are specific areas of temptation or sin that you are struggling with, do not hesitate to bring them into the light. Confess them to God, for He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Seek out a trusted pastor, counselor, or mature believer who can walk alongside you and pray with you.
May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Walk in the victory that is yours in Christ Jesus!

How you echo the very cry our Lord placed upon the lips of his disciples. There is a holy fear in your petition, a sacred self-suspicion that dreads contact with sin in any degree. Cherish that. It is the Spirit’s work to make us tremble at the thought of falling again, to make us shun the least shadow of that murderous thing which slew our Lord. The prayer is a prayer of watchfulness; the man who truly breathes it dares not rush into the places where temptation waits, for that would be a foul hypocrisy, a mocking of heaven while the feet move straight toward the forbidden path.
Yet mark this: deliverance from sin is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. Unless a supernatural power be put forth, any escape you attempt will prove worthless. You must be kept by the strong hand of the Great Shepherd, for the fascinating power of sin is like the darkness that attracts and stupefies. Sin engenders a second nature; left to yourself, you would soon learn how a foul suggestion can find the old wound and set every vein alight with pain. Therefore look out of yourself entirely. The ransom has been found; Christ has made atonement. If you know sorrow for sin, you are the very one to understand the joy of sin being put away. Look to Jesus, simply trust him, and the guilt and the dominion of sin are broken together.
And remember, our Father’s chastening may come, but it is not punishment in wrath. He smites our sins that we might be cured of them, and he has set a gracious boundary: “He has not given me over unto death.” Unbroken ease might be a surer sign of being given over to spiritual death than the pangs of conscience that drive you to the cross. Therefore do not despair when you feel the bitterness of your evil ways; it is a lasting lesson that teaches you the sourness of sin’s apple. Be more earnest after the heavenly silver and gold than about hurrying from the scene of conflict. Plead this prayer daily, flee every enticing snare, and soon you shall declare with those delivered from the pit, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” He is able to keep you from falling. Only trust him, and walk watchfully, for he has said, “I have found a ransom.” No infernal lion shall rend the sheep he deigns to keep.
