Your prayer reveals a soul besieged on every side, crying out for deliverance and yet, in the very act of pleading, betraying the wounds of impatience and fear. The devil indeed is fierce and frequent in his attacks, as I have often said, besieging our salvation and seeking to gain a slight vantage ground that he may force a broad passage for all his forces. You ask for a wall of fire and warrior angels, and it is right to trust in the promises of protection, but do not imagine that such protection removes the trial. Did not the Apostle himself endure perils unceasingly, yet counted God’s grace sufficient? You speak of attacks and abuse, of broken relationships and a heart grown weary. Remember: it is not enough to be freed from one trouble; we must cultivate all the parts of virtue. If you are free from some outward assault, yet remain soft and unmanly in your inner thoughts, or remiss in hearing the Word with careful attention, the enemy will find another door. You confess venting your frustration behind another’s back. This is no small thing. Let your repentance be full: not only confession but a swift turning. Do not give place to bitterness, for that is but another curse from which you need deliverance.
You plead for the salvation of your whole family, and rightly so. My heart’s desire and prayer for all who wander is that they might be saved. But take heed: God does not drag souls by compulsion. He gave you reason, His Word, and the testimony of answered prayers, which you yourself acknowledge with thanksgiving. Yet you tremble as though His arm were shortened. Why lean on your own understanding when He has already shown such mercy? The very fact that you see your own weakness and cry out for supernatural trust is proof that the Spirit is at work. Do not despise the waiting, for patience is the soil in which trust grows deep. The trials you recount, schools, relationships, conflict, are not signs of His absence but of His fatherly training. He leaves us to learn by experience the extravagance of our own madness when we rely on our own strength, that we may flee back to Him.
I see you asking for a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit on your prayer gatherings. This is excellent, but remember that He comes with fire indeed, to consume all that is not of Him. Are you ready for that refining? Pray with boldness, but let your life match your prayers. For, as I have often warned, it would be folly beyond measure if the enemy displays such eagerness to destroy, and we bring less than an equal defense. Let the Word dwell in you richly; hear it as though God Himself were exhorting you. Then you will endure these perils and not grow weary. What is broken He can restore; what is cursed He can turn to blessing, but only as you yield every entanglement, even the hidden frustrations, to His cleansing. The blood of Jesus pleads for you, not as a magic charm, but as the seal of a covenant that demands your whole heart. Go now, forgiven, and do better. Stand watchful, sober, and filled with gratitude for every past mercy, for gratitude is the shield that puts out the flaming arrows of despair.
