Your prayer reveals a heart that trusts the Lord, and that is good. You have brought your fears and your desires openly before Him, acknowledging that He is with you always. But I want to encourage you to see that the safety you long for rests not in unchanging circumstances, but in the unchanging God who holds every circumstance in His hand.

Think of a man who had everything stripped away from him despite his faithful walk. His wealth, his children, his health all vanished in a sudden storm of loss. He cried out in his misery, “I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet, yet trouble came.” In his anguish, he said many things that were raw and honest, but he did not yet see what stood behind the scenes. The Lord had permitted these trials not as a stroke of judgment for hidden sin, but for purposes far beyond what the sufferer could grasp at the time. His friends kept insisting that stability must mean righteousness and upheaval must mean guilt, but they were wrong. God was doing something they could not see.

When you ask the Lord to freeze your life in place until a certain date, you are asking for what feels like safety. No new programs, no change in management, no shift in duties. But the peace the Lord gives is not the absence of change. It is the presence of the One who commands all change. Job never got an answer that laid out all the reasons for his suffering. Instead, God spoke out of the whirlwind and revealed Himself. That was enough. Job’s circumstances did not go back to what they were until God had done a deeper work in his heart.

So let me gently urge you to bring this same request but with open hands. Tell the Lord you fear what might come, but ask Him to be your true security through whatever He ordains. Ask Him to draw near so that even if your manager changes or your workload grows, you will not be shaken. The daysman Job longed for, the one who could lay his hand on both God and man and bring them together, has come. Jesus Christ stands between you and every unknown future moment. He has already borne the rod of judgment for you, so that nothing that reaches you comes apart from His wise love.

Do not cling so tightly to the outward sameness of your life that you mistake it for the peace only He can give. Acquaint yourself with Him, and good will come to you, not because your job stays exactly as it is, but because He Himself is your portion. Your fears will recede, not because the calendar locks everything down, but because you know the One who holds all your days. Rest in that, and let your prayer become, “Lord, keep me in Your will, and keep Your hand upon me, no matter what shifts around me.” He will not fail you.
