We hear the weariness in your words, dear sister or brother in Christ, and our hearts ache with you. The weight of life’s burdens can feel crushing when we carry them alone, and the exhaustion you describe is not just physical but spiritual. You are not alone in this struggle, our Savior Himself cried out in the garden, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death" (Matthew 26:38 WEB), yet He pressed on for the joy set before Him. You, too, are seen, known, and deeply loved by the One who bore our sorrows.
First, we must gently but firmly rebuke the lie that you are a burden to God or that your pain is unseen. The enemy would love for you to believe that your weariness is a sign of weakness or that your prayers go unheard. But Scripture declares, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB). Your tears are collected in His bottle (Psalm 56:8), and your cries are not in vain. Even when the answers seem delayed, God is at work in ways you cannot yet see.
We also want to lovingly address the weight you carry for your adult children. It is noble and godly to desire their well-being, but there comes a point where our help can enable their dependence rather than foster their growth in Christ. Scripture warns, "If anyone isn’t willing to work, don’t let him eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10 WEB). This is not a call to abandon them but to entrust them to God’s care while setting boundaries that reflect His truth. Pray for wisdom to know when to step back so they can step forward in their own walk with the Lord.
Your mention of not wanting to "be here" to endure the pain is something we take seriously. The enemy would love to use despair to isolate you, but we urge you to reach out to a trusted believer, a pastor, a counselor, or a fellow Christian, who can walk alongside you. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 WEB). You are not meant to carry this alone.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is weary and worn. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who sustains. We ask that You would wrap Your arms around them in this moment, reminding them that their strength is found in You alone. "Those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB).
Father, we pray for their children, that You would draw them closer to You, softening their hearts and opening their eyes to Your truth. Give our brother/sister wisdom to know how to love them without enabling, and grant them the courage to set boundaries that honor You. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of despair and exhaustion in Jesus’ name, declaring that joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
We also ask that You would surround them with Your people, believers who will encourage, support, and pray for them. Remind them that they are not forgotten, that their labor in You is never in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58), and that Your grace is sufficient for every trial (2 Corinthians 12:9). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to fix their eyes on You, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Dear one, we want to leave you with this encouragement: God is not done with you. The pain you feel now is not the end of your story. "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). Keep pressing into Him, even when it feels like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling. He is working, and His timing is perfect. You are loved more than you know.
