“Lord, You know how much I have given and how tired I am. I don't want to keep score with my children, but tonight my heart hurts. Please heal the part of me that feels forgotten. Give me wisdom not to expect from people what only You can provide. And please open a way for us to have what we need. Amen.”

We join with you in this honest and tender prayer before the Lord, and we lift your tired heart up to Him together in Jesus' name. We hear how much you have poured out and how deeply it hurts to feel forgotten, even by your own children, and we want you to know that God sees every unseen sacrifice and He does not forget you.

The Lord understands weariness and He is the One who renews us when we have no strength left. He says in Isaiah 40:29 He gives power to the faint and to him who has no might he increases strength, and in Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Your feeling of being forgotten is real, and God longs to heal that wound, for Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Even when people forget, He never does, as He promises in Isaiah 49:15 Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb. Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you. And in Psalm 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up.

We gently encourage you in the wisdom you prayed for, not to expect from people what only God can provide. That is a holy and true insight. People, even our own children, will disappoint us because they are imperfect, but God is our unfailing Father. We are called to love without keeping score, for 1 Corinthians 13:5 says love does not keep a record of wrongs, and yet God also calls children to honor their parents as in Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2-3. It is right to feel hurt when honor is missing, and we encourage you to release that hurt to the Lord rather than holding it inward, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you as 1 Peter 5:7 teaches. Do not grow weary in doing good, for Galatians 6:9 reminds us in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

We also noticed your prayer said Lord, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is through Jesus alone that we have access to the Father and confidence that He hears us. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and Acts 4:12 tells us there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We come to God not by our goodness or our giving, but by faith in Jesus Christ who died and rose again for us, and it is in His name we pray with assurance.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this dear parent to You who feels weary and forgotten. Lord, You see every act of love and sacrifice given to their children, and we ask You to heal the hurt in their heart that feels unseen. Comfort them with Your perfect love and remind them that You never forget them. Give them deep rest and renewed strength, and give them wisdom to put their hope fully in You and not in people. Teach them to trust You with all their heart as Proverbs 3:5-6 says, and to look to You as their provider. Lord, You know the needs in this household, and we ask You to open a way where there seems to be no way and to supply all that is needed according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus as Philippians 4:19 promises. Bring healing and grace into the relationship with their children, soften hearts, and restore honor and love where there has been distance. Help our dear friend to continue to love without keeping score, forgiving as You have forgiven us, and to find their worth and joy in You alone. We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus. Amen.

We encourage you to keep bringing your heart honestly to the Lord each day, to rest in His Word, and to let Him be the One who fills the places where people have left you empty. He is faithful and He will provide. We are standing with you in prayer that you will feel His nearness and see His provision in the days ahead.

We were moved by your honest prayer tonight. Giving so much over the years and still feeling forgotten is a painful place to be, and it makes sense your heart hurts. Thank you for bringing it so plainly to the Lord.

We notice the wisdom already in what you prayed, asking God to heal that forgotten place and to help you look to Him for what people cannot give. That is not easy when the hurt comes from your own children, and the fact you do not want to keep score says a lot about your love for them.

When tiredness builds up, loneliness can feel even heavier. If you can, we encourage you to let one trusted person know how tonight feels, maybe a pastor, a friend, or a family member who listens well. You do not have to carry this alone, and having someone nearby can also help as you wait for provision. Your honest prayer has come before the Lord and He hears the cry of a weary heart. You have done well to tell Him plainly that you are tired and that your heart hurts tonight, for honest dealing with God is the way of truth. Come and tell the Lord that you feel forgotten, that you feel the ache of giving much and being little regarded. He does not despise such truthfulness.

You say you feel forgotten, and many of the Lord's people have sighed the same, saying Jehovah has forsaken me and my Lord has forgotten me. Yet our complaints of God are generally groundless. Hear what the Lord says to such a fear, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands. A mother may forget her child, yet will not the Lord forget thee. When you had not as yet one pulse of hope, the Lord loved you even then, for we love Him because He first loved us. His love sought you before you sought it, and it holds you still. At midnight when the city sleeps, God is the Watchman, and at high noon when all the world is busy and God is forgotten, still He is there working ever and everywhere. You are not unseen. There is no place where God is not, and there is no hour when His eye is not upon you.

There is wisdom in what you have prayed, that you would not expect from people what only God can provide. That is a truth worthy of perpetual remembrance. Children, though dearly loved, cannot bear the weight of your soul's need, and it is right to ask the Lord to heal that part of you that looks to them for what only Christ can give. Natural parental love is not censured by the Lord, even when it sorrows. He knows how much you have given. Bring that weariness to Him and sit down and feed upon His Word and upon Christ Himself, for there is an inexhaustible provision in His infinite love. When the wind blows the right way, you may yet smell the spices of the glory land where Emmanuel is King, and find your strength renewed not by the return you receive from others but by the love that first loved you.

We will pray with you that the Lord will comfort His people in your own case, that He will heal the hurt of feeling forgotten, that He will give you wisdom to love your children without keeping score, and that He will open a way for what you need. He who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows knows your need and is able to provide. Cast your burden upon Him, and rest in this, that though you may for a moment feel forsaken, you are neither forsaken nor forgotten.

May the Lord keep you in a truthful spirit, admitting your need and feeling His power, and may He give you to know more and more that you are graven upon His hands and kept in His heart. May He supply your daily bread and give you peace as you wait upon Him. Amen.
