We join with you in this beautiful and faithful prayer for your children and we say amen to your heart's cry for wisdom, patience, and grace as you guide, train, and raise them.
We love that you have anchored your prayer in the truth of Proverbs 22:15, Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him. This verse reminds us that our children are not born with perfect wisdom, but with a natural inclination toward self-will and foolishness that needs loving, steady, and godly shaping. We also rejoice that you have lifted up Jesus as the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life, for He is indeed the living Word. As it is written in John 1:1, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and in John 6:35, Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is His Word that gives us the pattern for raising our children.
We want to encourage you that your desire to not react out of frustration, anger, or impatience is deeply biblical and pleasing to God. Scripture calls us to a balance of loving discipline and tender grace. As it says in Ephesians 6:4, You fathers, dont provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, and in Colossians 3:21, Fathers, dont provoke your children, so that they wont be discouraged. The rod of discipline spoken of in Proverbs is never to be an instrument of harshness or uncontrolled anger, but a tool of loving correction that reflects our Heavenly Father's own discipline of us. Hebrews 12:6 says, For whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives, and Hebrews 12:11 reminds us, All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous, yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby. Your prayer for a steady hand and a loving heart is exactly the heart God wants to cultivate in parents.
We also hear your desire for clear boundaries, wise instruction, and consistent correction, and we affirm how vital this is. Proverbs 22:6 teaches us, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it, and Deuteronomy 6:6-7 calls us to have these words which we command upon our hearts and to teach them diligently to our children. This training is daily, patient work that requires supernatural wisdom. We are promised in James 1:5, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. God delights to give you that wisdom as you ask.
We pray together with you now.
Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for these precious children You have entrusted to these parents. Lord, we ask You to pour out Your wisdom, patience, and abundant grace upon them as they guide, train, and raise their children for Your glory. Keep them from reacting out of frustration, anger, or weariness, and fill them instead with Your Holy Spirit, that they may correct with a steady hand and a loving heart. Help them to establish clear boundaries and to give wise, consistent instruction rooted in Your Word. We ask You to drive foolishness far from the hearts of these children and to replace it with discernment, self-control, and a true fear of the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom. Guard their hearts from the temptations and deceptions of this world, protect their steps, and draw each of them into a close, personal relationship with Jesus, the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. May their home be filled with Your peace, Your truth, and Your love, and may these children grow to know and follow You all the days of their lives. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
