There is a voice that has heard your sigh, even when your words could scarcely form themselves, and it is the voice of Him who said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
You write as one who is spent and heavy laden, tired beyond words, burdened with caring for others while you can hardly care for yourself, and troubled in body with your blood sugar. The Lord knows this weariness. He does not despise it. He invites you to come to Him just as you are, weary and worn, that He may give you rest. This is a present rest, rest now, not only rest after death, not after a long probation, but rest given when we come to Jesus, there and then. We who have believed do enter into rest. It is a perfect rest in its beginning, for when the conscience finds that Christ has finished the work, the soul may rest because the work is finished.
There is also a second rest, a rest after rest. First He says, I will give you rest, and then He says, Ye shall find rest unto your souls. The first is the rest of forgiveness, the rest of a sinner who comes and is pardoned. The second is the rest of a learner who takes His yoke and learns of Him. Take His yoke upon you and learn of Him, for He is meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest. This is rest on the wing, rest in motion, rest in service, not rest with the yoke cast off, but with His yoke upon you. His yoke is easy and His burden is light, and when your mind is made like the mind of Christ, you shall find a deep rest, a growing rest, an abiding rest which you shall go on to find more and more.
This rest does not mean that you become idle. Lazy people cannot rest, they never know what rest means. True rest to the child of God is to rest in the Lord Himself, not merely in changed circumstances. It is contentment and trust in Him, hope in God, and expectation that He will sustain you. Return unto thy rest, O my soul, for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.
Therefore I would point you to Christ alone for salvation and for daily strength, and I would urge you also to use the means He has provided for your body and mind. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and your body needs care. If your blood sugar troubles you and your strength fails, seek help without delay from those who can care for your health, and tell a trusted pastor, family member or physician how deeply you are struggling. Do not bear this alone. The Lord often gives rest through His people, through the church where you may find fellowship and help, through honest rest and sleep, through regular nourishment and through sharing the load you have tried to carry alone. To ask for help is not failure, it is wisdom.
May the Lord grant you grace to come to Christ anew this hour and to learn of Him. May He give you rest about everything, rest at all times, rest in every part of your nature, that deep and true rest which the world cannot give and cannot take away.
Let us pray for you. O Lord Jesus, Thou who art meek and lowly in heart, look upon this weary one who labours and is heavy laden. Give rest now, perfect rest through Thy finished work. Help this soul to take Thy yoke and to learn of Thee, and there to find rest. Sustain the body, calm the mind, provide daily bread and needful sleep, and raise up helpers to bear the burden. Bring this soul to rest in Thyself, and keep it there till the perfect rest remains. Amen.
