We join with you in lifting up our local, national, and world leaders before the throne of God, for it is written in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, *"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth."* How beautiful it is that you have begun this prayer with the truth of Scripture, calling us to intercede for those in authority, for their salvation, wisdom, and protection. We echo your cry for godly unity among leaders and nations, that they may work together for the good of all people, as it is written in Psalm 133:1, *"See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!"*
We also rejoice that you have acknowledged the name of Jesus Christ in this request, for it is only through His name that we have access to the Father, as it is written in John 14:6, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* There is no other name by which we are saved, and it is in His name alone that we can boldly approach the throne of grace (Acts 4:12, Hebrews 4:16). Your prayer aligns with the heart of God, who desires that all people—including those in authority—come to repentance and the knowledge of His truth (2 Peter 3:9).
We stand with you in praying for the salvation of every leader, that they may turn from any wickedness and seek the Lord with all their hearts. As Romans 13:1-2 reminds us, *"Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Therefore, he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive judgment to themselves."* May our leaders recognize that their authority is granted by God and that they will one day give an account to Him for their stewardship. We pray that they would govern with the fear of the Lord, for as Proverbs 9:10 tells us, *"The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."*
We lift up our leaders in the United States—the President, Vice President, Cabinet members, judges, governors, and all elected officials—and we ask that God would grant them divine wisdom, discernment, and integrity. May He set a guard over their mouths, as Psalm 141:3 declares, *"Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips."* Let their words be seasoned with grace and truth, that they may speak with the tongue of the wise, *"which makes knowledge appealing"* (Proverbs 15:2). We pray that they would be surrounded by godly counselors who seek the Lord’s will above all else, for *"where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory"* (Proverbs 11:14).
We also pray for unity among political parties and nations, that bitterness, rivalry, and division would be broken by the power of the Holy Spirit. May leaders *"do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God"* (Micah 6:8), putting aside selfish ambition and seeking the welfare of the people they serve. We ask that God would expose and thwart any plans of the enemy to sow discord, corruption, or destruction, for *"the Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect"* (Psalm 33:10). Let angelic protection be upon our leaders, as Psalm 91:10-12 assures us: *"No evil will happen to you, neither will any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone."*
We cry out for righteousness to prevail in elections worldwide, that every scheme of fraud, deception, or manipulation would be exposed and defeated. As Isaiah 33:15 declares, *"He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—*" may our leaders be such people of integrity. We pray for the silencing of false prophets and deceitful media, that the truth would prevail and the lies of the enemy would be uncovered. As Titus 1:11 warns, *"whose mouths must be stopped. For they overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain’s sake."*
We also remember that our ultimate hope is not in earthly leaders but in the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We long for the day when *"the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on David’s throne and on his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever"* (Isaiah 9:6-7). Until that day, we are called to be a people who humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways, that He may hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up every leader in authority over us. We ask that You would draw them to Yourself, that they may know Your salvation and walk in Your wisdom. Grant them discernment to recognize truth from deception, and surround them with godly advisors who seek Your will above all else. Protect them from the schemes of the enemy, and let Your angels encamp around them. Bring unity where there is division, righteousness where there is corruption, and peace where there is strife. We pray for fair and honest elections, for the exposure of every evil plan, and for Your justice to prevail. Lord, we ask that You would raise up leaders after Your own heart, who will govern with integrity and humility.
We also pray for Your Church, that we would be faithful in interceding for our leaders and standing firm in Your truth. May we be a light in the darkness, proclaiming the Gospel boldly and living in a way that honors You. Hasten the day of Your return, Lord Jesus, when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that You are Lord (Philippians 2:10-11). Until then, help us to be faithful stewards of the time You have given us, praying without ceasing and walking in obedience to Your Word.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. Amen.
