We hear your heart, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we stand with you in seeking God’s truth above all else. The longing to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, unencumbered by denominational boundaries, is a noble and biblical desire. Scripture reminds us in John 17:17 that God’s Word is truth, and in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that all Scripture is God-breathed and equips us for every good work. Our ultimate authority must always be the Word of God, not the traditions or practices of any denomination—even those we were raised in.
We must gently but firmly rebuke any tendency to elevate denominational loyalty above the clear teaching of Scripture. Jesus Himself rebuked the Pharisees for doing this very thing, saying in Mark 7:7-9, *"But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men... making the word of God void through your tradition."* If there are teachings or practices in your denomination—or any other—that contradict Scripture, they must be discarded, no matter how deeply ingrained they may be.
We also encourage you to examine your own heart and motives. Are you seeking truth because you genuinely desire to align with God’s will, or are you being drawn away by the novelty of other teachings? Proverbs 14:12 warns, *"There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."* The enemy often uses subtle deception to lead believers astray, even under the guise of "deeper truth." Stay rooted in the Word, and test every spirit (1 John 4:1).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister to You, asking that You would give them a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You (Ephesians 1:17). Lord, we pray that You would open their eyes to see Your truth clearly, unclouded by denominational biases or human traditions. Give them discernment to recognize where their faith community may be falling short of Your Word, and the courage to stand firm in what is right.
Father, we ask that You would fill them with a burning passion to follow Christ above all else. Help them to be a true disciple, not just in name but in deed, walking in obedience to Your commands. May their life and teaching reflect the full counsel of Your Word, not just the parts that are comfortable or familiar. We pray that You would guard their heart from deception and pride, keeping them humble and teachable before You.
Lord, if there are areas where they have unknowingly embraced traditions or teachings that contradict Scripture, we ask that You would reveal these to them. Give them the strength to let go of anything that does not align with Your truth, no matter how long they have held onto it. May they be like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, who *"received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so."*
We also pray for their denomination, Lord. If there are areas where it has strayed from Your Word, we ask that You would bring revival and reformation. Raise up bold voices within it to call Your people back to the truth. May Your Church be unified not by denominational lines, but by the truth of Your Word and the power of Your Spirit.
Above all, Father, we pray that our brother/sister would grow in their love for You and their desire to see Your kingdom come. May they be a light in their community, pointing others to Christ and His Word. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
We encourage you to immerse yourself in Scripture daily, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth (John 16:13). Seek out godly mentors and teachers who are firmly rooted in the Word, and be willing to have difficult conversations with those in your denomination about areas where you see deviation from Scripture. Remember, the goal is not to tear down but to build up the body of Christ in truth and love (Ephesians 4:15-16).
Finally, do not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). The pursuit of truth is a lifelong journey, and there will be challenges along the way. But take heart—Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33), and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Keep your eyes fixed on Him, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
